The Food Factory is run by Sofia and the latest addition to the small cafés and bistros in Tavira — a small pitoresque village not far from Faro. Sofia’s place has been my favourite place during my journey all over Portugal this summer. She is managing her café/bistro with love and care. Offering ONLY homemade food on a little but excellent menu(the day I found her I ordered the ravioli dish with a delicios mushroom-cream-walnut-basil sause and sides among other things and her salad dishes are BIG and super-tasty) and self-baked cake, her place resembles a peaceful, pretty, independent café that could well be found among its peers in London, Amsterdam, Stockholm or Berlin. A real gem within the typical Portuguese restaurant bistro scene. Don’t be fooled by its simplicity! If you are looking for the authentic local kitchen only, this is the wrong place to turn to. But if you are missing out on it, you are letting pass by an Oasis of warmhearted cozynes — including the goldfish bowl sitting on the counter which belongs to her young daughter and which she had to get because the two of them moved from Lisbon down South and had to leave behind her many pets. Meeting Sofia was a great pleasure and I wish her all the best with her new business adventure as single female entrepreneur for the beginning tourist season in Faro! Go, sit down, rest, breathe through :)
