small but with a good variety of items, most of them above average,. definitely the place to visit on saturday. the woman selling the yuca-crab pastels, the platano salad, the mushed roots pure, the sancocho… deserves 6 stars!

This is a little outdoor farmers market that’s BIG on heart! Grab a fresh coconut to drink from the dred-locked man with the machete, the same man and his wife sell fantastic vegan pies and Horchata. Many vendors sell full-plate vegan meals that you can enjoy under the white tents inside the courtyard of the Museo de San Juan. There are exotic flowers for sale and great cheeses too… but come early, this outdoor market closes by 2PM! Saturday’s only and they DO sell Gift Certificates. After doing some sight-seeing in Old San Juan, we decided to head down the hill from El Morro to this farmer’s market in order to find something delicious. Unsure what we’d find, we felt like we had stumbled upon a lovely secret. The food here was delicious! There are lots of little stands run by local hipsters and other people who are just plain interested in good fresh foods. There are fruits, vegi’s, flowers, and prepared foods. We went to an organic /vegan catering stand that made us one of the best burritos I’ve ever had — and it was seasoned well with a papaya hot sauce. Additionally, I tried his Cantelope /Ginger juice — and it was really one of the best juices I’ve had in a while. If you like good, fresh foods — go here!

This little market was in part made possible by some of the people that live in Old San Juan looking for a place to get the freshest ingredients possible at the dinner table. Dont expect to find anything big, the market has been using the interior garden of the San Juan Museum for some time and although the space is huge the selection at this moment is not but you know that quality is always better than quantity and quality is not lacking at this place. You’ll find about 10 sellers and each of them with something different to offer. Maybe bread, cheese, vegetables, coffee, home made jelly between others. Every one of the people selling theyre products are really great, so you’ll enjoy the time you spend at the market. End the visit eating at Fifis Food stand. I think right now shes the only one serving food there. Shes a brazillian woman, that cooks really good organic mostly vegetarian food, there’s chicken and meat for the rest of us also. She has maybe 4 chairs in a table where you’ll join the others trying her food. Everything is already there so you choose what you want to eat… Like a buffet but without the refill. Sit and enjoy her talk. I recommend this for the tourist and for the people living here. Its something different and full of life. Its the way to buy groceries. Remember its ONLY on Saturdays from 8am– to 1:00 pm Happy eating.
