I learned that it’s a Swedish custom to «fika» at 11AM and 3PM every day. People stop working, grab a cup of coffee and a pastry or cookie, and enjoy a short coffee break and socialize with each other. Unlike the workaholic, cutthroat work culture in much of corporate America where you are forced to skip lunch and breaks to keep ahead (or even to keep even), the Swedes know when to stop and enjoy a little bit of life.
Espresso House is a nice place to fika with friends. There’s free wi-​fi, decent coffee and pastries, and plenty of seats. Yeah, it looks like a Starbucks that crashed into a Restoration Hardware, it’s cool.
