I was in Sweden and determined to go to a spa. Checked out Sturebadet and was informed the pools were all being cleaned out. I had already been counting on a day of pampering and soaking so I decided to check out the Grand Hotel and hit jackpot. It is not an ancient bathhouse in an art deco facility like we tourists like to see, but sometimes the modern interpretation works out even better. The Nordic Bath Deluxe day is pricey– 1050SKR– but I thought totally worth it. I spent a good 4 hours at that spa and left positively glowing. The package includes a glass of champagne, a chocolate, and a self service spa kit complete with step by step instructions and a body scrub, face massage, hair conditioner, body lotion, and a wooden brush. You can stay for the whole day in the facility, which includes: a dry sauna, steam sauna, cold pool, jacuzzi, warm swimming pool, and some amazing«experience showers» like one with«rainfall» faucets and another with a bucket overhead filled with cold water. There are also fresh apples, orange slices, cold water, hot tea, at various service stations throughout next to lounge chairs, chaises. You get a fluffy white bathrobe and clear rubber slippers to use throughout your stay, as well as a locker to store everything. The employees were all so pleasant and made the whole experience that much better. Then, when you are finished with everything, you can get ready for a night out at one of four vanities complete with makeup mirror, counters, blow dryer, etc. I went on a Thursday afternoon around 3pm. For 2 hours, I only saw one other person in the whole place, which was great because it is not a huge facility. Around 6 pm, it started getting a bit more crowded. I don’t know how it is on the weekends, but for this weary traveler, this was one of the highlights of my day!
