Just like Agnes L I was here for the Unilocal Social and my expectations were perhaps not very high seeing that the previous visit to a Swedish place calling itself an izakaya, Shibumi, was sort of a disappointment(not in quality of the food but just was not an izakaya) and when Lokal Izakaya opens on Kungsholmen and in Lemon Bar it does not really signal that it will be anything good. When I entered I was in a since pleasantly surprised as the place was nicely designed and looked really nice, again though nothing to do with a proper izakaya and the first glance on the menu confirmed that the people behind this place probably never been to an izakaya and potentially never set foot in Japan. The service was however friendly and fairly knowledgeable. They seemed to have things running nicely already from the opening. We started off with some drinks, very nice cocktails and a fairly interesting beer list. The wine list is by no means bad but a bit dull. When it comes to the food we opted to share some dishes to try several things. The seared asparagus with radish and black sesame was a nice and fresh dish. We then also tried the so called Fried Master Pork which was decent but nothing special and it really felt more Chinese than Japanese. We then had one of the sharing dishes, the miso pork. That was also a nice dish but again nothing that felt Japanese at all. In a sense all of the food was good but it was more like some sort of pan-Asian cuisine and slightly to advanced to be an izakaya. The menu is also. It all over the place with medium sized dishes, mains, sharing dishes and sushi and sashimi. All in all a decent place for above average Asian food, if they would change the name(not claim that they are an izakaya) and clean up the menu a bit and focus more it could be better.
