Gabriele Streetfood is located behind the Markethallen just down the street from the Basel SBB train station. Walking by, i was captivated by the smell of Italian food coming out of the back of the truck. The truck is immaculate and the vendor is this very friendly guy, who makes large ravioli, everything from scratch, except for the ricotta and parmesan which come from Italy. I bought one with water and sat on the steps behind the Markethal. You can take it inside the MarketHal and get a glass of wine from the bar too. The ravioli is made al dente and has a good supply of ricotta with some salt and pepper and grilled vegetables, simple and delicious in that Italian way. It was quite filling and the perfect thing to eat slowly while hanging out. It was so good that I bought another one to take on my 5-hour train ride tomorrow. I also had a sample fish meatball(pesce polpette) and it was delicious. Should have had the regular meatballs because they’re probably great. Gabriele says he is behind Markethal Tuesday, Thursday and Friday every week. Check him out. Check the food out.
