While in Basel we haven’t been able to decide easily where to eat. Thankfully the Unilocal app on our phones have been a real life saver and this led us to Nooch(no Jay and Silent Bob references here!!). We have a similar restaurant chain in the UK called Wagamamas, but frankly from the ramen I had at Nooch, I think this is better. Like I said, I had the ramen. You get the choice of dashi based or miso based, and I went for the former. It was lovely, very fragrant and tasty. The noodles were perfectly cooked, as was the grilled chicken that went into it. The waitress was of particular credit — she spoke the best English of anyone I’ve met in Switzerland. Frankly if she worked in London I wouldn’t have felt any different. So I would recommend the restaurant if you’re looking for something light on the stomach but warming, which was exactly what I was hoping for. Failing that you could order the James Bond Island — yes there’s a dish called that!

My goodess food in Switzerland is expensive. But when it’s at least delicious like Nooch, you are getting something good for your money. We’d already had some traditional Swiss/German food today and wanted something warming but not fried, so decided to go to Nooch. I had a really nice tom kha gai, a coconut-based soup with mushrooms, chicken and some sort of bean sprout, maybe, served with rice on the side. It was creamy and lovely but had a good kick of acidity to the broth that kept the coconut savoury and not too rich. At CHF60, it wasn’t cheap, but considering a McDonald’s meal for two is going to run you 25 or 30(according to the internet!) it was definitely worth the money. Our waitress was lovely, worked hard, and spoke perfect English.

Super delicious food. It’s not the typical food found in many Asian restaurants. Individual tastes are satisfied with a diversified menu. The prices are quite steep but I don’t consider that a minus point if the quality is right.

Cooles Ambiente, super gutes Essen, freundliche Bedienung, moderate Preise.

Asian fusion seems to be a major concept in Basel. I’m not usually a fan as it’s hard to meld flavors while keeping the integrity of the original. This spot is a mix of Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, and Japanese. The setting is nice, the service is friendly and accommodating(they were technically closed when I arrived, but allowed me to place a take-away order anyway). The food, while not spectacular, is pretty tasty. I ordered the noodle stir fry with beef. In the picture, it looked like lo mein noodles, but they turned out to be udon noodles. Softer and chewier than lo mein, it still worked in the dish(which was seasoned Chinese-style, but came with cilantro and a side of cut limes…) Aside from some fusion confusion, this place is worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Reasonable food for a reasonable price(for Switzerland). I can recommend the Asian Tapas other dishes I’ve eaten here so far were not so much to my taste. The service is mixed but generally good. The downstairs seating(benches) looks so uncomfortable that I’ve never tried it. Upstairs is partly lounge-style comfortable, but somewhat impractical for eating.

Four stars because the food is pretty good value for Switzerland. Essentially the menu is an Asian mis-mash, and is bulked out with noodles, potatoe and veg. Service is variable depending on when you visit.
