I arrived at approximately 8PM. Was seated immediately. Served by a pleasant server who spoke no English and I very little German. Ended up being a nice experience. I had Rösti with a Sausage and«onion sauce» that has the consistency of a gravy. Was pretty tasty. Had a seasonal dessert made from a chestnut paste. Similar to an azuki bean paste in flavor and texture. Price was reasonable(for Switzerland) lol

Das Cordon Bleu ist sehr zu empfehlen! Die Gaststube ist modern und lädt zum Verweilen ein.

Very accommodating restaurant in the old city of Bern. I arrived at Restaurant Schmiedstube at about 7:45 p.m. on a Thursday evening and was immediately seated. I was able to get a menu with a partial English translation(my German is too limited to order much beyond sausages and cutlets). The restaurant offered a modest but sufficient selection, including several standard Bern dishes. There was also a decent selection of wines. I ordered pan-fried trout topped with apples and served on rosti that was very good. The fish was excellently done, and the rosti was good, if a bit oily. The prices were reasonable – CHF43.20 for dinner, two glasses of wine, and pear sorbet. There are enough good choices on the menu to make this a great place for a family or group.

Delicious, divine, perfects atmosphere, server was great, meal… I ate the rosti, a cheese, potato and bacon delight. My family ate the shrimp curry which they loved, the veal which was super tender… the waiter was too nice and he spoke some Zenglish which was great. They speak Germana in Bern, but we got by!
