Café du Lys

J’aime le Lys, que ce soit pour y manger à midi, boire un verre le soir ou passer un moment en bonne compagnie l’après-midi avec un thé sur le canapé… L’ambiance est sympa, la carte est simple mais savoureuse et les prix sont raisonnables (sachant qu’on est à Genève quand même hein ! ;)).
De la rue de L’Ecole de Médecine, je crois que c’est mon préféré: tables et chaises en bois comme dans un vieux café, un ou 2 canapés, ce café à du cachet et la population m’y semble moins jeune que dans les autres bars de la rue, ce qui est un plus !
Bref, l’étoile manquante est pour le service qui n’est pas toujours au top, j’ai toujours l’impression d’être une étudiante qui né consommé pas assez alors que ce n’est clairement pas le cas, j’y vais souvent et c’est clairement leur population cible vu où ils sont situés… Donc moins une étoile, pour le reste, rien à redire ! :)

Very nice place to have a drink well-​centered, near downtown Plainpalais. The Café du Lys is located in the famous Ecole de Medecine street, the street of bars for university students as we know it ;) Though, the Café du Lys is populated with many differents kind of people, not only students. We were just passing by to have an afterwork drink but ended up feeling a bit hungry and were happy to see that you can easily grab a bite there. During lunch time they serve entire meal and during the evening you have a choice of tapas. Not many choice but what you have is good: we tasted a part of vegetables pie and they serve it with a little salad. Simple but very good!
You feel a bit like at home in Café du Lys, very comfortable area (couch area) or simple wood table area… Hanging out with friends, boyfriend, girlfriend, whatever your age, Café du Lys is a perfect place for simple occasions!
Taste their special russian beer or their mint tea (with real mint leafs ;)

I totally love this bar! It’s a perfect place to meet friends and have a nice conversation. Service is always good even though I already heard people complaining, but guess I was always lucky and had great waitresses serving my table. The price is also very good for Geneva and they have food as well which is great if you are at a bar and hungry, portions aren’t big but price is also small, food and tapas are tasty and I usually go there hungry on purpose. It’s highly recommended to reserve if you want to go from Thursday to Sunday, it can be crowded after 20hrs. But in the afternoon it’s quite calm and like a café style. They also have a comfortable couch area.

I went there a couple of months ago and I basically write only now, because I’m still very angry about everything. The place is a typical vegetarian unfriendly restaurant. They served me a dish so small and ridiculous, even a 7-​year-​old child would have asked for more. First of all, they gave me a bad look, when I asked for something vegetarian (that didn’t exist on the menu) and served me later a dish where they just left out the meat. So I ate only a really tiny bowl of lentil and 3 very tiny potatoes for over 25 Franks! The mistake that I made was to moan about it only when the bill came. I normally stay always when it comes to negative issues during a restaurant visit, but this time the whole place made me really angry. I simply refused to pay the whole bill and asked for a reduction for the ridiculously small dish. The arrogant waiter asked me since when does the client set the price for the dishes? and I told him that the dish was a joke. So the waiter started arguing with me about my attitude and reminded him about his own attitude. The conversation lasted about 5 minutes and at the end the waiter called me a conard (= idiot) I finally paid the whole price because the waiter didn’t want to hear what I had to say. This is by far the most ridiculous restaurant experience I’ve ever had in my life.

This a great place for a drink. Beverages are not expensive, the service is good and the music isn’t too loud, so you can actually have a conversation.
Can’t comment on the food, as I have never tried it.

The Café de Lys is right next to university, so there are mostly students there. Drinks and Food are cheap and really good and there is a huge range of typical local beverages from all over the world. The interior design is very cosy, its just a place to meet after uni and spent the whole night there, meeting all kinds of people, chatting, playing cards and drink a nice beer.
