The train station is centrally located at the confluence of the Reuss River and Lake Lucerne. Quite a dramatic setting when you step outside the train station. It’s definitely worth looking around the station, as there is some impressive architecture associated with the station. As one might expect traveling in Switzerland, this train station was well-organized and exceptionally clean. There are also plenty of conveniences available within the station: lockers, ATMs, restrooms(have a few CHF available to use), and cafes. If you need to satisfy a chocolate craving, you can pick up some chocolates from Laderach. As is customary in Europe, trains are timely, so don’t let these shopping and dining distractions cause you to miss your train. Signage for locating your train is intuitive. I found this to be an extremely convenient station to use, especially since as a smaller city the station is more manageable to navigate.

Der Bhf ist laut, klein und etwas unübersichtlich. Zu Stosszeiten kein Zuckerschlecken. Tut seinen Zweck. Positiv ist das Shopping im Untergrund.

I’m not quite sure what it is about this station but it is one of my favorites in Switzerland — it’s probably because I love the city to start off and it seems that I have a preference for train stations in which they pull in and back out rather than pass through(I prefer to avoid that frantic moment when I realize I’m on the wrong platform and have to run down and up stairs like the mad American woman that I am). I would describe this station as a mini and more airy version of Munich’s. Like most other Swiss stations, the space is well-organized and clean. The central location conveniently drops you off just a few blocks from the bridges and key attractions of the city. I hold the fifth star for two reasons 1.) you have to pay to use the restrooms(I know this is a common European thing but it’s my star to hold and 2.) the lockers are extremely expensive at 9 francs a pop. Money machines.

Nice station for a city the size of Luzern and predictably a touch safer than the stations in the more major Swiss cities. Very central with regards to location within Luzern. The arch outside the front of the station is a city landmark. City buses and trams to take you anywhere within the city but are expensive(4.5 Euros). A wide variety of shops by the entrances/on the way to trains and a few expensive restaurants in the upstairs«gallery». A few takeaways exist for eating basic food on the train. Wide variety of locations to head to give the central location of Luzern in Switzerland with a number of incredibly scenic routes.

We used this station to get the trams to and from the access point for Mt. Pilatus. I had no idea where I was most of the time, I just trusted our hosts and never let them out of sight. Nice clean restrooms.
