So… Brunnentor, a restaurant that visibly labels itself the«Baron of Schnitzel»(Schnitzelbaron). Let’s see what we got here: Close to Uster’s train station, the Brunnentor is located conveniently and also provides free parking for its customers, but make sure to get there early, spots fill up quickly. And so does the restaurant, at least on a Saturday night. We were lucky to grab the last table. The restaurant was packed to the last seat, including two large parties(10+), several families and some couples. Seems to be a pretty popular spot. Service was friendly and more importantly, really quick. Which is surprising, in a restaurant that is currently running at full capacity. Our orders were taken as soon as we were ready and food was served within 10 – 15 minutes after that. We were located in a spot where we could peek into the kitchen and the amount of food these guys manage to churn out is nothing short of impressive. But is it good too? Fortunately, it is. My spouse took the steak tartar, I wanted to know what the fuzz about the Wienerschnitzel is all about. We were not disappointed. The owner of the restaurant, José Seifner, is an expat from Vienna and it shows. The schnitzel come big enough to cover most of the plate, going over the edges at points, and are as thin as they should be. Vegetables and fries are nicely seasoned. Beef Tartar came nicely decorated, freshly ground and seasoned and with plenty of toast. No complaints from the lady here. The restaurant itself is decorated… idiosyncratic is probably the word to use here. Yellow walls, lots of modern art on them. The men’s room features a squeaking swinging door that does not really serve any apparent purpose. Also, the water basin is operated by a footswitch, which works well, if you manage to find it right away… All in all, the Brunnentor is a nice place for a hearty dinner. You might want to get a reservation because this place is busy as hell and, while you may get lucky, there’s a good chance you’ll leave hungry. Which would we be your loss, frankly.

Qualitativ ganz gut und schmackhaft, Preis-Leistung i.O. Freundliche Bedienung.

Excellent restaurant specializing in authentic Wienerschnitzel, by the resident Schnitzelbaron, José Seifner. In the summer, you can sit outside, away from the street. Very recommendable, especially if you like Wienerschnitzel.
