Ali Kebap seems to borrow its name from the ad campaign that was run as a self-promotion by the advertising firm APG in Switzerland in 2009. Maybe they got permission, maybe not… Nonetheless, this Ali Kebap isn’t traditional. There is no rotating meat. No fladenbrot. No taschenbrot. The meat comes in the form of 3 ground formed discs on a skewer. They are cooked to order on a sandwich grill. They serve 4 «kebab» options: Mexican, Balkan, American and another I forgot. The difference being the meat, veggies, sauce and bread. The American has ketchup, and I suppose that’s the only reason it’s called ‘American’? The Mexican, I believe, is chicken breast. I went for the ‘Balkan’ since it has lamb. It consisted of lettuce, bell peppers, onions and a thin herb white sauce in a long warmed bread roll. The flavors were good — lamb well-spiced and sauce was obviously homemade, albeit too runny. There was too much bread(or rather not enough meat and veg). Although, the price is only 8.50CHF, so I just threw some of the bread away. Fresh ingredients, decent price but not a big fan of the offering. I prefer the rotating meat. After all, ‘kebab’ is Turkish for ‘meat’ and ‘döner’ means ‘rotating.’
