Cafe New Zealand

Da ich Wartezeit überbrücken musste, ging ich auf einen Cappuccino ins doch ziemlich hochgelobte Café New Zealand. Sorry Leute, war jetzt nicht so der Burner. Gut, vielleicht hatte ich einfach zu viel erwartet. Die Einrichtung ist doch sehr, wie soll ich sagen, «gewöhnlich, schmucklos, irgendwie unaufgeräumt». Dann der Cappucccino für stolze CHF 6: ach lieber Kaffee-​Gott, wo ist den der Geschmack abgeblieben? Lau trifft’s ganz gut. Die Bedienung wirkte eher lustlos, war ja auch kurz vor Ladenschluss. Item, vielleicht hatte ich nur einen schlechten Tag/​Moment erwischt.
Vielleicht gebe ich dem Café New Zealand noch eine zweite Chance, wenn ich mal in der Gegend bin, aber extra hingehen würde ich dafür nicht.

Very nice staff. We came here for our morning coffee while switching hotels. Two large white coffees cost 14 CHF, which is quite a lot for budget travellers like us. But my god, the coffee was good. So it kind of saved our morning. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Mega herziges Café, kleine aber feine Auswahl an Frühstücks /​Snack Optionen. Super Kaffee, frisch gemachte Scones, Pies etc!

Place is run by new Zealand expats, so you can expect them to know how to prepare a proper flat white. Also nice and relaxing atmosphere, not the typical swiss posh attitude.

I am greatful and appreciative that my job takes me to many cities around the world and the first thing I seek out is that TRUE espresso bar … Delivered by the barista that is passionate about their coffee but also about creating an atmosphere that (very hard to describe) makes you feel personally welcomed … Without being fake, in all its simplicity !!! Wherever you may be !
Reminds me of Pourquoi Pas Espresso Bar in Montréal ! Enjoy!

Coffee + Service = Great. Friendly owner, great flat whites and loyalty card system which makes Café NZ coffee one of the most affordable in Zurich.

Love the beef pie — delicious flaky pastry and moist filling. Chicken pie (usually my favourite) isn’t quite as good — the pastry is different to the beef pies and just doesn’t hit the spot. Pie prices are a little too high for my liking, given how much they would cost in NZ or Aus. Despite this, definitely keep coming back for the great coffee and service.

Love this place! The staff is extremely welcoming and coffee is always on point. I will definitely come back when I’m back in town. Also, they are extremely dog friendly.

We walked up and down Langstrasse looking for breakfast and happily discovered Café New Zealand. The food was good, the atmosphere was enjoyable and the proprietor was delightful. I would highly recommend Café New Zealand for breakfast or lunch.

Espresso drinks were very reasons as most are 4.50 CHF whereas most Zurich café charge cappuccino about 5.50−6.50 CHF. It was good but not the best I’ve ever had in the area. Meat pie was good but also not really memorable, especially considering the price.
Very friendly and relaxing here. Free water comes in a small bottle too.
If you are in the neighborhood, stop by for coffee drinks.

Ein neues Kaffee-​Paradies ist in Zürich entstanden, hallelujah!
Einrichtung und Design sehr «basic», aber Kaffee vom Feinsten in all seinen Varianten. Und ausgezeichnete Kuchen, mein Geheimtipp: Ginger Cake!

This is the café Zurich has been waiting for. Fantastic coffee — rich, smooth, aromatic in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Feels a little like Vancouver for me. Hoping that the staff stays as friendly and personable as they are now, this could be the café where they really know your name and don’t just ask for it to write it on your cup. My recommendation is the Flat White with the traditional lemon poppyseed cake.

Ich weiss gar nicht, wo ich starten soll:
Die haben Flat White! Eine australische und neuseeländische Kaffee-​Spezialität, der Besitzer, Sam, ist unglaublich freundlich, schnell und kompetent, kennt sich mit Kaffee aus und baut gerade einen Coffee Club auf. Er ist vor einem Jahr nach Zürich gezogen und hat das Café vor zwei Wochen eröffnet.
Es ist mitten an der Langstrasse, gleich gegenüber der Station «Militärlangstrasse» — charmant kann man die Langstrasse ja nicht wirklich nennen, doch innen ist es entzückend. Modern und zum Wohlfühlen. Mir gefällts.
Dann hat es im Hinterhof schöné, grüné und ruhige Sitzplätze — man würde nie darauf kommen, dass auf der anderen Seite die Langstrasse tobt — yay.
Neben dem grossen Kaffee-​Angebot, haben sie auch leckere Kuchen und salzige und süsse Muffins (alles neuseeländische Spezialitäten) — z.B. mit Fetakäse und Spinat oder aber auch mit Speck.
Ich hatte einen Lemon Poppy Seed (Zitronen-​Mohn-​Kuchen) und er schmeckte richtig gut — yumm, kann ich nur empfehlen. Dazu ein Flat White mit Sojamilch (unbedingt probieren, ist eine Mischung aus Cappuccino und Milchkaffee, aber stärker, sie machen es nämlich mit einem Double-​Espresso). Neben Sojamilch haben sie auch Reismilch und machen auch Chai-​Latte — hoffe Matcha-​Latte kommt ebenfalls hinzu.
Und für alle, die gerne von unterwegs arbeiten (#mobileoffice): Das Wifi ist ausgezeichnet — habe Fotos hochgeladen und hat gut funktioniert.
Ihr seht, ich bin begeistert und freue mich diese Kafi-​Perle in Zürich zu haben — herzlich Willkommen und bleibt uns lange erhalten!:)

The flat white coffee is delicious, as is the iced chai latte (I’ve been multiple times now while staying in the hostel above). Atmosphere is trendy and youthful. Great wifi also. The owner is very nice and accommodating. It’s a little pricey (for a Canadian at least) but it’s normal for Zurich!

Café New Zealand is located at Langstrasse which they time-​share with the Longstars Bar during the day (6 a.m. to 6 p.m.). They completely renovated the place and the atmosphere is super cozy. The only negative experience for me was the toilets. They are freshly renovated as well and the paint fumes are pretty bad at the moment. The rest of the place is very neat, though! Make sure you check out the huge, imposing Maori wall painting!
If you’re hungry, they have great pies (pork, beef, chicken and veg), great desserts (ginger slices, lemon poppy seed cake) and savory muffins. And if you’re not, you should nevertheless try their specialty; authentic (so I’m told) New Zealand coffees such as the «flat white». Their chilled tap water in neat glass bottles, which you get free of charge, is an especially nice touch in my opinion.
What I really am a huge fan of is their tea served in a huge pot which you can tilt so that the tea bag no longer infuses the tea. It’s enough tea to share — or to keep for yourself since you might want to have all to yourself after you’ve tasted it :)

Dass Neuseeland einen ganz besonders guten Kaffee hat, wusste ich nicht. Offenbar rösten die Neuseeländer die Bohnen anders. Wie gut er schmeckt durfte ich heute erfahren. Sehr lecker! Ich empfehle den Flat White, einen Espresso mit geschäumter Milch. Und für Kinder gibt es Milchschaum mit Schokolade drauf. :)
Was das Essen angeht, haben wir uns durch das Angebot durchprobiert. :) Für mich gewinnt der pulled pork meat pie, superköstlich!
Ein hübsch eigerichtetes Stück Heimat für Kiwis, gute kleine Mahlzeiten und sehr guter Kaffee für den Rest.:) Riesiges Maori-​Wandgemälde inklusive. Check it out!
