Novotel City Zürich West

Don’t know how the food served in the Restaurant was before, –it was my first time and they blamed it on the new cook-​, but I n-​e-​v-​e-​r tasted such a horrible lunch! I say «tasted», as the simple spring salad with chicken-​filets was uneatable; even at that, that foul, oily aftertaste lingered in my mouth for hours.
OK, the friendly, apologetic waiter waifed the cost, but a cook like this should be feathered and tarred.

Genau so gehört sich das. Tolle Zimmer, tolles Frühstück, nette Bedienung an der Bar, mini Spa Bereich, alles sauber.

I stayed here on a client’s dollar, and they apologised for putting me up here, but I’m so glad they did! I had a truly excellent experience and I am so grateful to the staff for all they did for me.
I arrived in the evening and the check in was pleasant and easy. The lobby downstairs looks much better than you think it will from the outside. There seemed to be an internal courtyard with a bar and comfy seating.
I went straight to my room, which was frankly brilliant. HUGE bed (in a normal room), a wonderful walk in shower, a very cool desk that opens out to create twice the space and a comfy sofa that I suspect turns into a sofa bed.
I wanted some supper in my room while finishing off the presentation that I was giving the next day (at said client). I didn’t have a room service menu, so the guy in the kitchen read the whole menu out to me, made some significant changes to what I chose and delivered it with a lovely attitude.
After supper and a couple of hours with my presentation, I thought about printing it and how difficult it might be. Au contraire! A quick call to the reception and they agreed to print it without a murmur. It was 32 pages long, it took them 5 minutes and they wouldn’t hear of charging me for it.
After a very good night’s sleep (peaceful, comfy, the right temperature and GREAT pillows) I fancied breakfast. Feeling rather like I wanted to make notes on my presentation rather than go down to the buffet, I again called room service and asked for an omelette. It was too early for omelettes — they hadn’t switched something on, but they could offer me scrambled eggs and bacon. I’ll take it I said! Quite a while later, the same chap knocked at my door and presented me with a beautiful mushroom omelette, a huge pile of bacon and sausages and a big jug of delicious coffee. He had also thrown in some fruit and a couple of yoghurts. I was blown away! It was delicious, and free — as it was included in my room.
I actually had a small argument with the front desk when I tried to pay for the printing, some water I had taken from the mini bar and the breakfast (or at least the delivery), but no — it was all included.
It was extremely reasonable, I felt like I had got such good value and such a great experience out of them. Bravo Novotel!

A good choice for families with kids. No extra person charge for children sharing a room; kids get a free toy/​surprise on check in; hotel pool. See if you can get a room rate that includes breakfast (rather than paying 29 SFr/​person) — it’s worth a few extra dollars a night for a very extensive breakfast buffet.
It’s out of central Zürich, as other reviewers have mentioned, but there are a few restaurants, etc. nearby if you look, also a nearby movie theatre.
Staff was very friendly and helpful (which is typical for Novotel, I think).
Prices seem in line with Zürich prices, which are expensive, like everything in Switzerland!

There were many great aspects to this hotel that made my stay to Zurich very enjoyable.
Service: The customer service that was available was generally pretty good, most particularly the people that worked at reception. They were knowledgable about local sites to see and had good recommendations on what tours to take, as this was our first time visiting the city. They also spoken English fluently, which made the visit easier as we were foreigners who didn’t know too many German phrases. The only people that we had trouble communicating with were the people who serviced our rooms, such as when we needed extra or new materials like towels and soaps, but it wasn’t too bad.
Atmosphere: The décor of the hotel was nice and modern, and gave a very warm and welcome feel upon entering. There is a bar and a restaurant in the lobby area, along with places to lounge, play video games, or browse the computer if you did not bring any of your own. They also have a heated indoor pool located on the lower floor, as well as a gym if you wanted to exercise.
Location: The only downside to the location of the hotel is that it is located off of the city center, but is closer to the airport. There is not a lot to see, do, or eat in this particular area, especially during the winter time when most things are closed down. With that said, there is a tram station located very near the rear of the hotel that will take you directly to the city center in about 15 minutes. I suggest buying a day pass, as this will get you around for a cheaper fare, than if you were to buy just one way passes. These tickets are available at a kiosk near the station, and sometimes the hotel may be selling them (though they had sold out when we visited).
Overall, very nice and comfortable stay here. I would definitely consider it as an option if I return here in the future!

— City West ist kein Gewerbegebiet, sondern mausert sich immer mehr zum hippen/​angesagte/​jungen Stadtteil Zürichs — es gibt viele Restaurants und Bars in der Nähe
das Personal an der Rezeption ist äußerst freundlich
— Zimmer im 5. Stock: geräumig, renoviert; neues, sauberes Bad; Minibar, viel Stauraum, Flatscreen; bei geöffnetem Fenster ist es relativ laut
— Frühstück habe ich nicht in Anspruch genommen
— Tiefgaragenplatz sehr praktisch, jedoch teuer (29 CHF/​Nacht)
— kostenloses WLAN im Hotel
— Wellness-​Bereich mit Pool und Fitness-​Raum (Fitness-​Raum relativ klein (wenig Cardio-​Geräte) und schlecht belüftet; durch den nebenan gelegenen Pool extrem warm und schwül)
FAZIT: Für einen Business Aufenthalt ist das Hotel absolut ok, der Fitnessbereich könnte aufgewertet werden, weil er doch meist von vielen Gästen benutzt wird!

Für Familien mit Kind oder Kindern ist Novotel immer eine gute Wahl und unter den besseren Hotels in Zürich bei etwas Buchungsglück vergleichsweise preiswert. Seit den letzten Beiträgen hat sich ein wenig getan, Internet per LAN-​Kabel ist jetzt kostenfrei, WLAN für 60 Minuten. Die Zimmer sind sauber und wurden wohl vor kurzem renoviert. Das Frühstück hat sich seit den letzten Beiträgen leider nicht gebessert, für CHF 29 ist das gebotene etwas mager, der Service recht schleppend. Den Kreis 5 kann man inzwischen wirklich nicht mehr als Gewerbegebiet bezeichnen, es gibt neben dem Puls 5 direkt gegenüber noch diverse Lokale und Ausgehmöglichkeiten. Die neue Tram Linie 4 hält jetzt direkt vor dem Haus (Haltestelle Technopark), die neue 17 vom HB hält an der ein paar hundert Meter entfernten Förrlibuckstraße. Tramtickets können übrigens an der Rezeption erworben werden. Parken in der Tiefgarage ist von der Autobahn kommend sehr bequem, kostet allerdings CHF 29.

Ein Hotel im Gewerbegebiet, daher auch noch «leistbar».
Leider kein freies W-​LAN, nur in der Lobby. Im Zimmer nicht sehr günstig.
Garage sauteuer.
Frühstücksbüffet sehr übersichtlich.

Wie alle IBIS Hotels in Deutschland, vielleicht auch weltweit :) mittelmäßige Zimmer, gute Preise, Standardküche und KEIN Free wi-​fi. Dieses Hotel ist etwas außerhalb vom Zentrum, mttel in einem Gewerbegebiet.

Das Novotel Zürich-​West liegt in einem aufstrebenden Stadtteil von Zürich mit einer hohen dichte an Kultur, Party, Theater und Kneipen.
Der im Jahre 2000 neu erbaute Hotelkomplex beinhaltet drei Hotels der Accor Kette. Ein Novotel, ein Ibis und ein Etap Hotel.
Wir wohnten für eine Nacht im Novotel. Wir schwankten zwischendurch, ob wir drei oder vier Sterne vergeben solltenWir habe uns aber dann für drei Sterne entschieden, da es doch einige Abzüge gab.
Der Check-​In verlief nett und reibungslos. Die Ernüchterung kam vielmehr auf dem Zimmer. Die Zimmer — im Novotelstil — wirkten ein wenig abgewohnt. Nach bald 9 Jahren in Betrieb auch kein wunder. Die Vorhänge waren komplett aus Plastik, was sich auch im Badezimmer fortsetzte. Der Waschtisch aus Plastik ging in die Duschzelle aus Plastik über. Alles scheint komplett mit einem Dampfstrahler abwaschbar. Irgendwie seltsam Auch die Matratze hatte ihre besten Tage schon vor ein paar Jahren gehabt. Ich habe selten auf so einer dünnen Matratze geschlafen (das kennen wir aus anderen Novotels nicht). Dennoch war es im grossen und ganzen okayaber halt auch nicht mehr!
Das Frühstücksbuffet war angekündigt bis 13 Uhr am Wochenende. So liessen wir uns Zeit und gingen ca. um 10.30 Uhr zum Frühstücken. Um diese Zeit war das Buffet schon so gut wie geplündert. Gläser fehlten, das Ei war kalt, die Brötchen– Auswahl hielt sich in Grenzen und das Personal war schon damit beschäftigt, für das Mittagessen einzudecken. Auf Nachfragen, bekamen wir jedoch alles, was wir wollten. Zum Preis von CHF 25, — war es dann letztendlich in Ordnungaber halt auch nicht mehr!
Das Personal war sehr nett und aufmerksam. Durch die Lage im Westen der Stadt für Touristen bedingt empfehlenswert. Man benötigt ca. 10 Minuten mit der Strassenbahn zum Hauptbahnhof.
Falls man eine gute Rate im Novotel bekommt, dann ist es absolut in Ordnung dort zu wohnen. Grosse Ansprüche darf man nicht habendennoch war es okayaber halt auch nicht mehr!
