I know a few poeple put in a lower raiting because of the restaurant and not the food. Yes the restaurant is VERY small and you basically need to squeeze through tables just to get to your seat, however, the quality of the fish is really one of the best i‘ve tried. SO yes very cramped and a bit on the pricey side but if you want fish thats so fresh is almost melts in your mouth, this is the place to go to! The staff is super friendly as well.

I visited the Samurai II near Zurich Stauffacher for Lunch together with my wife. I had a Sushi /Sashimi Combo for CHF30 which turns the event to a rather expensive Lunch. Salmon and Tuna were very fresh and good. Also my wife’s inside out rolls were a pleasure. Why only 3 stars? The atmosphere does not really call for much more and in relation to the price, I would have expected one or two notch up… However, if it is only about the quality of the raw fish it is a 4 star lunch — in a 3 start location ;)

OK food but extremely slow service. Took 35mins to do an additional California roll and one basic tekka maki when the restaurant was not busy.

As with everything in life, the 3 stars is a relative review to the original Samurai in Zurich, as I had rated that location with 4 stars. Even though this Samurai is so much more convenient and central(a stone throw away from Stauffacher), it lacks the warmth in customer service you actually look forward to in the original Samurai, like: the really nice old Japanese man who welcomes you, the nice petite Japanese waitress, and the really nice and accommodating sushi chefs. The downsides of the Samurai 2 vs the original include: a tad smaller menu(which shouldn’t disappoint you as most of the items you’d probably want anyway are served at both locations), a smaller, less cozier layout and the sushi chefs at are in the back, so you don’t even get to make see or speak to them. They are just out of your reach. These«downsides» actually are enough factors for me to actually choose the less convenient location of the original Samurai. The food at both places are both tasty! It seems easier to make reservations at this location, so I suspect the original one has less seating availability. Reservations at this location are still highly recommended.

The little brother to a much applauded Samurai Sushi. Noticeably less patrons on the same weeknight we tried the original. Still, the sushi rolls we got were just as delicious as the original a couple minutes away. The only bummer was that it lacked somethings found on the menu of its bigger brother(e.g. Okonomiyaki). Nonetheless, a nice second choice if you’re without a reservation at the original at dinner time.
