The biggest indian ceremony in the city it’s also one of the most spiritual, colorful and yes, delicious! A true feast for all the senses. This was my second year in a row celebrating Janmastami in Zurich. I was completely charmed by last year’s ceremony and this time it was as beautiful as I remembered. The festivities started at 6:30 in the evening and ran well past 1 am. I was greeted upon arrival at the entrance with a program and some refreshments, to start working up my appetite. Like I needed it: P There were many stalls selling all kinds of indian delicacies & sweets, most of which I cannot name, but everything I sampled was yummy. There were also stalls selling books, meditation beads and so. You get the picture. At the back of the temple there was a very comprehensive cultural program complete with pantomime, traditional indian dancing & music, with performing acts from near and far. I specially enjoyed Jagaspace, a wonderful music band from Estonia featuring one of the most amazing singers I have had the pleasure to listen to live. There was plenty of sitting space. There was a different program running inside the temple, with kirtan, dancing and temple offering. It was packed with people the whole time and the atmosphere was fantastic. Then, at 10:00, the gift of Prashadam, free of charge for everybody. There is something so enriching about sharing such a lovingly prepared meal. Afterwards, the main celebration started in the temple, everything crowned by the main Prashadam at 1:00, 108 different indian delicacies under the same roof!
