Orange Cinema

Orange Cinema is an experience not to be missed… In great weather, the lake view is magnificent. With a good movie, it becomes perfect :)
We went this year for the first time and watched a random movie, Jesse and Celeste forever. Actually the movie was not really randomly chosen, but it was one of the few ones for which tickets could have still be reserved online. For the big fish, s.a. Skylight or Hangover 3, the tickets were long gone; the remaining option was to queue up in front of the venue at 7pm on the respective day and buy the tickets then. We found this to be inconvenient, as the movies usually start at 9.45pm.
We easily found seats, even if arriving only few minutes before the start. Venue became full eventually. Everybody enjoyed the movie.
Definitely recommend to put it on your to-​do list for the summer. It’s really worth it.

After failed attempts to score tickets two summers in a row, I was elated to finally succeed this year. Yay!
We took a pleasant stroll down the promenade to arrive at Zürihorn 15 minutes early to select our seats. It was exciting to walk down a red carpet, receive a promo soda and see the giant screen along the water.
Once we got in, the trouble started. EVERY SEAT WAS TAKEN. I didn’t know people would come early and reserve seats by writing their name down beforehand. I was really annoyed that Orange Cinema would intentionally oversell their venue.
There was a huge crowd of chairless folks in the front who immediately jumped into each lounge chair as the staff placed them down. One… two… THREE additional rows before we were able to get seated.
I rushed to use the restroom as the ads started playing in German… and they were completely out of toilet paper. :(Thank goodness I always carry pocket tissues on me.
Was planning to get my free Ovalmaltine ice cream (included in the SFr. 22 ticket price) during intermission, but thankfully I got it before the movie started, as THERE WAS NO INTERMISSION.
Actually, the first row wasn’t bad, and it didn’t hurt my neck at all. I thoroughly enjoyed our front-​row view of the movie Moonrise Kingdom (in English) and even liked leaning back in my lounge chair. After a blazing day, the temperature did get a bit nippy after 10 pm, so I should have brought a thicker cardigan.
Despite the shaky start, it was a still a pleasant experience, so I’ll probably attend again next year.

Kino unter freiem Himmel direkt am Zürihorn mit romantischem Blick auf die Alpen und dem Zürisee.
Das Programm besticht durch eine sorgfältige Auswahl von internationalen und bekannten Filmen, sowie die «Arthouse Selection». Da ist also für jeden Geschmack was dabei.
Zudem kann man/​frau sich kulinarisch mit verschiedenen Leckereinen und erfrischenden Sommerdrinks verpflegen lassen.
