Get the normal chicken rice rice and skip the balls. I’ll give five stars for the fragrant rice and awesome soup, chicken and chilli, but took away a star for the rice ball. My boy loves to say«this place is an old folks home». Nope, not that we are rude, but we have full respect for this stall run by a whole team of elders! Weekends queue are snake long! Every time we have it, we will hope for this chicken rice stall to run for long, as we have seen many traditional old stalls to close down as the team ages.

Initially I thought that the word«ball» was a typo for«stall». Anyway, got to know that this stall was relocated from Jalan Besar and has been around for more than 30 years! The first thing my friend who introduced me to this place told me was that, the lady boss has a fiery temper. Her husband is a more like-able silent hard working guy chopping the chickens. Thankfully there are a few helpers here who will take the order from you, rather than let you deal with the infamous lady boss. The chicken is slightly tough but still tastes good. I like its rice which is cooked with an aroma of fragrance. The thing that made me happy about his stall was the soup. Having a chicken meal, the comforting thing to me will be a bowl of nice soup with some vegetables in it and this stall delivered it.

Chicken rice balls are more commonly found in Melaka. This is a very popular stall in Toa Payoh is one of the few places that you can still where you can still find chicken rice balls in Singapore. Apparently, I have been told that serving the rice in such a compact form helps to retain the flavors. Unlike the ‘ping pong’ size ones you find in Melaka, the ones here are like erm. ‘tennis ball’ size. Usually, 2 chicken rice balls are sufficient for me to fill my tummy. If you prefer the regular chicken rice, they serve it here too. Other the fragrant and flavorful rice, I love the chicken feet peanut soup that compliments the meal. Especially on weekends, do expect rather long lunch time queue at this place.
