I stumbled upon this little eating house one rainy morning while I was riding on my motorcycle and had to find shelter storm. Drizzles are fine to brave through, but this rain was full on. When I saw this hawker eatery, I thought to myself… «Nothing like a hot cup of old school, ‘sock’ filtered kopi when you’re soaking wet!». I ordered myself a kopi and then I noticed that everyone in this establishment was eating one of two dishes and man, did they look like they were enjoying it! I wasn’t hungry but I thought I should just give it a go. Feeling cold works up an appetite. One of my favourite chinese dishes is Char Siew(sliced, honey roasted pork) with rice so I ordered that. It was surprisingly good. At three dollars a plate, the serving was generous and the Malaysian hawker was really friendly. The place is unassuming but in a city where space is sparse, it’s got a surprisingly number of seats and the surroundings gave it a real old 80s Singapore feel. I felt like I went through time at while having that meal. It was cheap and the char siew was delightful. I’ll definitely be back to try the other stalls. Oh yes, don’t forget to have your Char siew rice with the chilli, it makes all the difference.
