So this restaurant used to be in River Valley then moved to Upper Thomson. A bummer since the five min walk to this place is now a 20min drive. Anyway, I do not suggest the buffet since the selection is not as good. It is better to order dishes — the crab in salted duck egg sauce is the best I have tried in Singapore — creamy with a balance of salty and spice. The other dishes to try are the salt and pepper squid, salt and pepper pork ribs, yang chow fried rice, and tofu with minced pork. BTW, they sell the salted duck egg sauce that keeps for 3months — great to use at home with roasted chicken!

The crab was fresh and I saw the tank of crabs behind the bath room and they were quite ferocious in a tank full of water so you know they are definitely LIVEANDFRESH :) which makes them so yummy! The salted egg squid was yummilicious! I’m def getting that again. If u like fried calamari you will love this! The chili crab was good and spicy with an eggish sauce base. The salted egg crab was yummy too and my family ordered two plates of mantou and kept dipping the mantou into the sauce :) Def in love with the sweet and yet crispy mantou! Reasonably priced food! Paid $ 18 a crab with a reservation!

I’ve been here a couple of times since it used to be within walking distance of where I stayed and I almost forgot about it until my friends called me out for dinner a couple of days back. Their salted egg crab is still as good as it was back then, but the rest of the dishes we had we rather lacklustre and lacked taste. I wouldn’t say I was underwhelmed or half-expecting it to be a boring dinner, but the food kind of turned the mood off for us as well. Prices are considered relatively cheap for crabs and great for the budget conscious.

Irvin’s Live Seafood House. It was formerly known as Irvin’s Seafood Cze Char and was located at River Valley Road. Their most famous dish would be the Salted Egg Crab! This is an OMG awesome special recipe by Chef Yap That golden custardy liquid is packed with a generous amount of salted egg. It’s even yummy when it’s cold! I was just drinking the gravy. Love the creamy and buttery viscous sauce. Irvin sells the sauce for $ 12/box that is made fresh upon order. This is a MUSTBUY. Just imagine cooking any ingredient in this. –Melts– My advice, don’t buy the crab, get the sauce and cook your own. Their crabs are a little on the small side and the meat isn’t fantastic. Other tze char favorites include the damn good pork(butter), salted egg yam chips, red tilapia with special sauce. Go for it if you want a comfortable tze char dining environment.

Do you prefer to have your tze char in air con? If you do, this is the place for you! Taking over the old Peranakan place called Ivins(i know, its confusing!), Irvin’s has actually moved from their old River Valley location to Jalan Leban. They are known for their cheap crabs, which I don’t feel is that good since you get what you pay for, but in general Irvin’s is pretty ok for their tze char. Especially in comfort, with huge tables and friendly waitresses. Try their salted egg yolk yam chips. They are really good. This place also has their own salted egg yolk sauce that you can buy home, which is the best invention since sliced bread! You can also order from the HK café next door because they are by the same owners. That is brilliant because you can have tze char for dinner, and then have some fried ice cream from next door which is absolutely divine!
