It’s so much easier to relax, smile and enjoy the evening when everything is going as planned. A nice breeze, a star-​filled night, fire works, great service and mouth-​watering food constitutes my definition of a Sunday evening. And that’s exactly what you’ll get at 22 North. Maybe not the stars, but if you let your imagination loose a little you just might see something…
The restaurant is a little bit smaller than the others along the D Deck but its outdoor seating is more than adequate to host a gathering of people. The staff’s attitude to the customer left me speechless, really. It was as if they actually enjoyed what they were doing, were constantly smiling, polite, and on top of the order. It’s such a selling point, in any area of business, to be able to handle a customer well, which is why I’m surprised no one else does it like these guys — not around Disco Bay anyway. The staff make the wait for food bearable, and I’d happily go back just to experience the standard of service again.
The food itself was a much-​needed change to the generic western menus of some of the restaurants these days. I mean, come on! Burgers, fajitas, a couple salads, risotto, and pizza, let’s see something different. I learnt here, at 22 North, that steak did not need ketchup and french fries, not when it’s cooked to perfection with a side of potato gratin. It looked so good on my plate that I didn’t want to spoil it. Hunger eventually overcame awe before the meal grew cold and I devoured it. Half way through the meal the Belgian head chef, a cheerful fellow always cracking off jokes, came to see how we were doing. All our mouths were too stuffed to respond.
There is actually nothing negative I can say about the place. It’s just as expensive as the neighboring restaurants but the food and service is a rung or two higher. A top spot to go for a date or treat for yourself.
