I was very hesitate to take the ferry to Park Island for the very first. I took a cab actually, via a longer route, and at a time that cabs are not allowed to go on to the Island (cab driver was warned when arrived and possibly fined afterwards). That was a bit silly
But for the second time, the ferry was a breeze. 30mins ride and I slept very comfortably like a baby both ways. It says a lot about the stability of the ferry. Indeed the crew is run by a different company from the cross-​harbor ferries, which you can certainly tell by the model of the ferries. The air-​con was just on the spot as well. So often the ferries going to Macau or other islands are wayyyyyyyyyy too cold.
The only complaint? Probably not mine but from the view of the residents on Park Island, it is a bit too pricey? $ 25 for one ride ($ 20 for residents), you spend about a short cab ride worth of money to Central, plus whatever fee you have to pay to go from Central to your destination. Of course it is OKAY if you work at IFC. Actually probably much better than Mid-​Levels.
So while I don’t envy the life on Park Island, I don’t mind going there just to have a retreat over weekend. The Ma Wan beach (see my another review) is probably closer to the urban district than any other, and is 5mins away from the Park Island Pier. Also accompanied by a few nice (and cheap) bars, which is kinda rare in the beaches in Hong Kong.
