Whenever I walked by Lantau taste I’ve noticed that it’s fuller than all the other neighbouring restaurants, and after a week of walking by it I began to curious. After two weeks I let my curiousity get the better of me. It took two weeks because the restaurant doesn’t seem to care much on how it’s presented, and the fact that the outdoor chalkboard menu is all in Chinese. Having entered I found that they do have English menus, which is obviously a huge relief — otherwise I’d be on my phone looking for pictures or pointing at other people’s meals! I sat down and had a look; a few curries, some noodles, but mainly rice dishes. While I was deciding I ordered an ice-lemon tea. One thing you can always rely on in a chinese restaurant is that they’ll have some good, refreshing ice-lemon tea! I finally decided on a rice dish, garlic chicken and rice. The service was quick and the staff friendly, it appeared like a place that if I spoke Chinese I’d make a lot of friends and in a short period of time. When the food came I was a little disappointed. I was expecting the typical fried rice with bits of egg, lettuce, and the sort(even though it NEVER said fried rice in the menu). Instead I was left with a bowl of steamed rice with bits of chicken drowned in gravy on the side. I finished half of it before thinking that I actually wasn’t that hungry so I left the rest for the bin. It was not bad, it just wasn’t what I had in mind. The tables next to me had plates licked clean and I must say the curries look quite good, maybe next time. At the end of the day I can say it was my fault for not reading the menu properly. I may go back again as it has a nice outdoor seating area, and for $ 40 for lunch and drink it’s an easy choice when I’m strapped for cash!
