Another night out for Tapas. What else… it is Almeria after all! This was another night of wondering the streets close to home to find something new. There are several places all together(I’ll review those later as, of course, we tried them as well!) so we chose the one with the most people in it as that is usually a good sign. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere is nice. As the weather is now chilly with winter here, we sat inside with the rest of the diners. I wouldn’t call it necessarily romantic, but it covers just about everything else. The room is very open with loads of chairs and space. It is great for large groups, families, or just a couple, as we were. The staff is very friendly and attentive, we received our food and drinks in a very timely manner. The tapas menu is large… very large. We just kept seeing more and more and more. Then there were the specials listed on the chalkboard. Haha. I can’t complain too much really. At least they have a good selection. The downside to that though is figuring out which one(or ones) to have! We narrowed it down to two to start with. Lomo and Hamburger. Both were delicious so we poured over the menu again for our next selection. I decided on one of the specials, the chicken empanada and my fiancé the croquette(one of my favourites!). The empanada was amazing. The dough was fried and slightly crispy on the outside but still soft on the inside. The filling was slightly curried and more like a chicken pie. My only complaint might be that it was a little oily. But not enough to not make me want to order it again sometime. The croquette were good, nothing special but a safe choice. As there were just too many things that sounded so good, we of course continued our dining with two more tapas. This time tostada. My fiancé is a major fan of the Almeria Tuna and tomato tostada so he went with that. It is hard to find any other place than Almeria and most people give him a weird look when he tries to ask if they have it or can make it for him in Menorca. It’s quite entertaining, really, to see the different reactions. Anyway, he got his tuna and tomato and I got my favourite… sobrasada! This was not just sabrasada, but pikant! Even better! For a tostada, it was amazing. The bread was nothing special, but thinly sliced so as not to be overpowering or filling. There was a thin layer of sobrasada(I could have gone for a little more, but then, I can always have more!) and a sprinkling of melted cheese on top. I think this was my favourite of the whole night. I would go back here every night for this tostada. We finished off the evening with the profiterole to share. A mistake only in the fact that it was so amazingly good and we ate it all… feeling stuffed to the brim after. This was a great place and I am sure we will be back again. We hardly made a dent in the menu. If you are good at making hard decisions, definitely check this place out. If you are better with smaller selections… learn how to make decisions and come here anyway.
