Hotel El Convento

I want to really like this place. We got the terrace room. It is a great location, the staff was extremely friendly and the views… wow. The rooms were not that comfortable. The bed was very small for two people and the matress felt like it was topped with cardboard. The bedding was old and scratchy. The shower was supposed to have 45 minutes of hot water… try 2 – 3 and that was a trickle. The soap and shampoo looked like they had been recycled (some were half full). You could hear anything and everything (not good for the romance). It was not the restful experience we hoped.

If you already are getting a double room, go ahead and pay a little more for the terrace. Beautiful views, and how nice you can just enjoy your piece of this view privately.
Ok if you cheap out, honestly, you get this view from the major scenic point in Arcos, and if you were to take your morning breakfast off the hotel’s terrace (recommended).
My tip:
1. If you rented a largish car, you are going to be very squeamish driving into the Old Quarter. You better copy the locals and pullin your mirrors, look at everyone’s scrapes on the mirrors to amuse yourself when you walk around town.
2. To get to the hotel’s recommended parking, the Plaza del Cabildo has no signs. So drive into the Old Quarter, and as soon as you go thru the 1^st arch (of the major church), take the immediate right and you suddenly will be rewarded into a small parking lot. If you pass the 2^nd arch, you’ve gone to far and you better immediately follow the signs to exit town. or risk getting yourself stuck in a tight driving situation w/​a million point turn in tiny streets full of locally parked cars.
3. Don’t pay for a ticket from the machine in the lot (limited to a few hrs). Go to the hotel directly and get a parking pass to display in the car window, which you will pay a much discounted rate at the hotel upon checkout.
