Double winner: extraordinary pastry — had the almond croissant twice in one day; and lunch was exceptional. We had watermelon soup and an eggplant salad. We’re going back for dinner. The only average item was the cappuccino. Others have complained about service and price. The former was excellent and the latter reasonable. So far our best food experience in Barcelona

Appalling. Went here because all the other places were fully booked, menu looked alright so I took a seat. Everything went downhill from there, the grilled octopus was cold, patatas bravas were soggy and mushy and the red wine was sour. Weak! Avoid at all costs.

Perfect desserts, not that good atmosphere. If u want their cakes or desserts I recommend going to the pastry shop they have just in the back part, they have small tables inside too.

Great tapas! Even though they aren’t all that nice to you, I understood that here in Barcelona they don’t really work for a tip like in America do now I know why attitudes are a little different Everything I ordered tasted great and there is live music! You sit in front of the cathedral and watch people pass by. It’s tucked away in a little square, perfect for dinner with family or romantic night out.

Beautiful setting next to the church of Santa Maria del Mar. Chilled atmosphere with friendly staff. I would recommend the ‘huevos con chorizo’(eggs with chorizo sausage) in particular. It was delicious. Slightly more expensive than other places but worth it for a few dishes.

Nice sunny breakfast of eggs, bacon, toast(with thyme!) and a cortado. I expected a bit of gourmet after seeing photos on Unilocal and reading reviews, and enjoyed my desayuno here. The outdoor seating is limited to 4 tables of 4 people, I was lucky enough to notice that when I first sat outside I was not at Bubó, but their neighbor. My 2 eggs, toast strips and coffee was 6.75 €, a good enough value in a very touristy area.

We sat inside the bar, not at the tables outside, got to choose our cake at the cake shop next door(still Bubo of course) and got served in the bar. What to say? The cakes are simply DIVINE :)

MACADAM. MACADAM. MACADAM. You must try these caramelized macadamia nuts covered with fleur de sel, white chocolate, Tahitian vanilla, and cocoa powder. I read about these babies but wasn’t convinced, so I tried many other things first: Xabina chocolate cake(winner of world’s best chocolate cake award): this was more of a mousse with an itty bitty piece of cake. Very good but did not meet expectations. Namelaka vanilla: this was the shopgirl’s favorite cake and mine too! The praline financier was delicious, and the whipped cream reminded me of Paris(the St Honoré at La Pâtisserie des Rêves to be exact). The fresh raspberries were a perfect touch. Long Cruixent: also good but I realized I would rather have cake than a mousse on a biscuit Sacher De Gerds: really looked forward to this as I’m huge fan of chocolate and raspberries, but found the sponge cake to be dry and heavy Pera Caramel: loved the peach mousse but overall it didn’t come together for me In the end, after sampling so many things(including the chocolate covered hazelnuts and chocolate covered hazelnut cookies), I realized that the reviewers were right all along. The macadamia nuts are THEBESTTHINGATBUBO.

Bubo is shockingly good for what’s easily the most touristy location in El Born. It’s front and center for the church, courtyard and various streets and alleyways that all converge right before your table, so it’s perfect for people watching. There’s an extensive tapas menu, but for me the real standout was the Cambridge burger, which at 7.50EUR was fairly priced and unbelievably delicious. I normally hold out hope on burgers abroad, but this was one place I’d be happy to return to just for the burger alone.

I had a box of macarons and their Xantina chocolate cake here. The Xantina chocolate cake won«best chocolate cake in the world» in 2005, and I completely believe it. I came to the store at 6pm, and there was only 1 cake left. It was truly the best chocolate cake I have ever had, and it was less than 5 Euros. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city. The macarons were yummy and better than usual bakery quality, but they weren’t incredible.(Relative to laduree in NYC)

Me encanta.!!

great place to have brunch. right across the street of the basilica. their tapas are delicious. i ordered the egg with chorizo, patatas bravas, mushroom croquettes, coconut & brie croquettes 2 rounds of americanos, and a bunch of macarons and a chocolate cake. everything was delicious and its nice to just sit there and eat right next to the basilica. however, bums will bother you for money every now and again. which is everywhere in spain as long as you are sitting on the terraces. the desserts went really well with the coffee. the desserts were expensive, but the tapas are of decent price. highly recommended!

They combine their sangria with orange juice. What genius! I tried their famous chocolate cake, which was good and had great olive oil flavor, but it didn’t knock my socks off. It was a bit pricey, but I’d come back for dessert.

Am I influenced by other reviews? All I know is that I walked in at 8:15 with a group of 8 and they didn’t hesitate to seat us. Outside. Probably the most desirable place to sit on a warm day on May 11. What great customer service. Our waiter was also very helpful with our ordering. We had 3 tapas dishes each: chorizo and egg was Amazing. We also had patatas bravas, to hold us over. All of the croquettes are delicious, especially the jamon. The shrimp was good, and the pulpo was delicious as well. Basically everything is so good. We had a great backdrop, with the cathedral right next to us. The service is also impeccable. Much different than the service you get from restaurants off Las Ramblas where you come across employees who apparently hate their jobs. We also had good entertainment. Get here if you can. Dessert was phenomenal. We got the large chocolate cake, enough for 8 people. Amazing. There are crunch pieces within the cake and the chocolate was sweet without being overwhelming. Definitely come here for that. What a great experience overall. Great customer service and great food.

Bubo caught my attention with its funny name. Then it caught my attention when I read it was voted«best chocolate cake in 2004.» 2004? It’s got to have some standards right? We got a few macarons, a huge cheeseburger macaron for giggles, and a few cakes to try. I’m not usually a big fan of chocolate, but the chocolate cake was hands down the best I’ve possibly had. It had a nice, fluffy sponge cake in between the cream and there was some slight rasberry jam in there so it had a light chocolate taste. The texture isn’t heavy unlike most American cakes and the cream was light and not too sweet. The other cakes were solid as well but definitely didn’t beat the chocolate cake. The macarons were good but not amazing like Laduree or Pierre Herme. The huge cheeseburger macaron definitely was more for show than taste so I would skip that and stick to the cakes. Prices range around 4 – 6 euros for the cakes, reasonable for the quality and clean space. FYI, it is only takeaway at night.

What better way to celebrate my 100th Unilocal review than reviewing my favorite restaurant in Barcelona! I was introduced to Bubó by a friend who had went to Barcelona a few months before me. She did all this research on great places to go in Barca & I just reaped the benefits. Bubó was on her list as one of the top spots & it just so happened to be directly across the courtyard from the gorgeous Santa Maria del Mar Cathedral(make sure you stop by, the stained glass windows are so beautiful). There is limited seating inside which doesn’t really matter because outside is where you want to be. The food is fantastic, the sangria is delicious & the Bubó pasteleria next door doesn’t hurt much either! Some of my favorite dishes were the mozarella mille-feuille, the tuna ravioli(probably #1), brie & coconut croquettes, iberian ham croquettes, grilled prawns, the mikini. You can’t really go wrong with any of the choices though. Also note that the dishes are essentially tapas so while it sounds like a lot of food, it’s really not that much. Prices are not cheap but you get what you pay for and that is quality my friends. I love this place so much I went back 2x on my last trip and I can’t wait to go back again. Highly recommended stop in Barcelona.

Wow, this place was great. I found this in a travel book as their chocolate cake was voted the World’s Best Chocolate Cake in 2005. I made sure to pay a visit. I actually came here twice during my visit to Barcelona. I tried a variety of their creations in addition to a coffee and some of their more travel-friendly desserts(opposite the dessert display). The chocolate cake was, in fact, incredibly delicious; you absolutely can’t go wrong with this choice. For the taste and the quality of the desserts, I felt the prices were really reasonable. The place is modern and clean; they even have an automated sliding door for their entrance. There’s also a sister restaurant next door. You can try just about anything, and I think you’ll be delighted.

Bubo is something different from anything else I have reviewed to date. I have not tried the tapas offering that they provide, instead I decided to focus purely on the cake and chocolate side of the business. Yes you heard me right, chocolate and cake! Usually a mix of the both! They seem to specialise in very artisan desserts that mix together unusual flavours and come out tasting amazing. So for example a lemon cake with Parmesan cheese. Bubo is excellent. Quite pricey for portion size, but they are really providing some very different from the norm that tastes great. So good I went twice in 5 days when I was in Barcelona last month. Definitely one not to miss.
