Venez nombreux.

My second visit to Can Mach within a week. This time, I ordered the Catalan– style escargot. Rich tomato sauce with bits of sausage in it. maybe linguica? I wish I knew where I could get this dish at home in San Francisco! I can’t fail to mention the view: spectacular.

What a gem in the Pyrenees! Can Mach may very well be the only game in town, but it’s well worth a trip from elsewhere. Located in Tapis, just a few hundred meters on the Spanish side of the border, this restaurant serves up a selection of Catalan favorites at affordable prices. The«tipico» Catalan salad with charcuterie is not only delicious, but large enough to share. An order of entrecôte con frites, cooked to perfection, was sufficiently succulent to convert a vegetarian, and it was thick enough and large enough to share, leaving any diner totally satisfied. Though two successive lunches on weekdays allowed for instant seating and excellent service, I’ve been told by locals«in the know» that weekends at prime time would suggest reservations. Unilocalers! Get thee to Can Mach and enjoy not only a delicious repast, but your choice of indoor dining, or outdoor patio seating with a delightful vista of the Pyrenee foothills and the distant Mediterranean.
