What a culinary experience! Occi is quite a small restaurant(advanced booking a must) with a sleek modern style that somehow seamlessly incorporates the giant stone walls and pillars of the old Girona building in which it is situated. This unique combo is a bit confusing at first but seems to make perfect sense by the end of the meal(no, there was no wine involved here). The menu consists of dishes that reflect the«modern yet classic» look and feel of the place. Offerings are imaginative and pretty much universally appealing. The thing I liked most about the menu was that it was not simply«twists on a local classic» but instead the chefs used all of the classic local ingredients(and some lesser-seen local produce like rabbit, pigeon and a whole host of local wild mushroom varieties) to create dishes and a style of cuisine that was truly their own. Luckily, we were 5 people so we were able to choose five different starters to share. In order to enjoy each dish and not jumble up all the flavours, our waiter suggested bringing each dish in turn to make a sort of tasting menu. It was a good call as every dish was packed full of its own unique flavour and character that was made somehow all the more enjoyable by tasting it in isolation from the others. Favourites included the taggliatelle with local egg, shrimp and mixed mushrooms, the«arroz de pals»(their delicious take on a risotto) and the rabbit terrine. A word to the wise: the starter portions are LARGE so if you’re not hungry or are looking for a lighter meal, you could order less than one per person or even get a few different starters to share between you as a whole meal. Main courses consisted of fish and meat dishes that were just as creative and tasty as the starters. Meat and fish alike were cooked to perfection with accompaniments that complemented and enhanced their wonderful natural flavours. Desserts were light, well presented and as unique and imaginative as previous courses. In conclusion, I would say that Occi offers some incredibly imaginative, tasty and well-executed food made from some of the finest local ingredients and backed up by extremely friendly and helpful service. Dinner was extremely good value for the amount and quality of the food received, coming in at around € 40/head for three courses(more with wine, as only one of us had a glass). A definite must-try for anyone, but especially those looking for something a bit different in Girona and the surrounding area. Oh, and if anyone in your party speaks Castellano or Catalan, definitely get a menu in one of those languages as some ingredients and descriptions are lost in translation on the English language menus.

Occi is fantastic, I know many people who consider it one of the best if not THE best restaurant in Girona. Service is great. You will not be disappointed, lunch or dinner!
