This is a review specifically for the tennis club at La Manga. The club is a sprawling temple to learning and playing the fine sport of tennis. The club consists of 28 courts, 20 of which are European red clay. The remaining courts are hard(US Open style Decoturf) and synthetic grass. There is a well stocked pro shop with stringing services, a bar/café and(amazingly) a steakhouse restaurant. There’s also a squash court, pool, full gym and bowling green. The teaching pros at La Manga club are top-notch, all speak excellent English and provide innovative instruction and drills. OK, so why the 3 star review? Well, I went during the off-season and the condition of the clay courts were in horrible shape. There was hardly any top layer and the sub-court was much harder than I’m used to. The results were erratic bounces and a uncomfortable playing experience, more like hard courts. Perhaps La Manga is better in the summer, but then again it would have been much more crowded too. Oh well, it was still a fun week and I enjoyed myself nonetheless.

This hotel/apartment complex sits alongside a golf course, which used to host PGA tours(not in recent years as the Pro’s now hit the ball to far for the course), it is also along side football complex. The nearest airport is Murcia however you can only get flights there twice a week, although I have travelled here out of season, Alicante airport is an hour and a half away but there are more flights in and out of there. The apartments are of a good standard with kitchen areas with all the mod cons you would need. There is security to get in and out of the complex but it is not heavy handed or intrusive. The staff are helpful and you can always find someone. The complex host a variety of restaurants and a supermarket so you can get all the supplies you will need. The complex hosts a spa and gym with all the treatments you would expect so if treatments are what you want then they can accommodate you. There is a small village 5⁄6 miles away which offers small eateries and a beach front. If you were to come here remember that out of season many football clubs use it for warm weather training and so it is more geared to their needs, I do not know what it is like in the height of summer but can imagine it would be packed. It has met the purpose of my stay and I am sure it would meet the purpose of most holiday makers, the apartments have been up for about 5⁄6 years and could use a coat of paint on the outside but all in all a nice venue with lots of things to do on site as well as off site.
