I wanted a big portion of good ceviche. I was told by a Peruvian lady resident in Madrid to go to Lupita II. Even though I checked Unilocalers reviews and its reviews weren’t the best I decided to give it a chance.(after all none of them said the food was awful) the 1 star is only for the portions(big ass portions) but the food isn’t THAT good. I have had much better ceviche. The service is terrible, the waitstaff pretty much don’t give a shit about the customers. I felt like they were annoyed by us coming in. Our waiter pretty much threw the plate to the table, he didn’t offer nothing special, he didn’t bring us extra plates to dispose the shelfs, he didn’t even crack a smile. The restaurant is ugly, gives the impression of a very dirty poor dinner. Sadly I made a mistake by coming to Lupita II. Never ever again!

The service is not the greatest at this location but the portion sizes and the food certainly more than make up for it. The portions are enormous! So be careful when ordering, you might just order double what you can eat. Although, it’s not really a big problem because you can just ask to take it to go, they have no problem giving you take out boxes. The chicken is their most ordered dish and it is delicious! It comes with a side of salad, french fries and two delicious spicy sauces. A large group could eat here very cheaply. All the dishes i’ve tried here have been great, from the appetizers to the desserts. Sometimes we just sneak in to have one of their huge portions of chocolate cake. It is rich and always cures my sugar cravings. They have all kinds of cakes and pies, they vary depending on the day and on the time of day. If you can get over their lack of customer service you will certainly be a very happy diner here.

The service in this restaurant is not the best. There are many tables in the dining salon, upstairs and downstairs and it’s popular and the times when I have been I’ve only noticed one waiter attending a nearly full house. Said waiter is usually frenzied, absent-minded and dismissive. My opinion is that it would take a true master and saint to be able to handle all of the demands with grace and aplomb, so, we go with patience and an empty stomach. On the one hand, empty stomach is recommended because regardless of what you order you are going to get a large portion. On the other hand, if you are hungry, you are going to have to wait. However, a quick solution to that would be ordering a beer. Then before you know it you will have a massive plate of hot, delicious food in front of you. It smells good, it looks good and it tastes good. The Pescado a lo Macho(macho fish) kind of blows my mind. Seriously, the portion is enough to properly feed three medium size adults. There’s fish, lots of it, and it’s topped with a seafood sauce that includes mussels, clams, prawns, squid and potatoes. And on top of that they serve it with a large dish of white rice! OMG it’s gluttonous. But delicious. I’ve also had the ceviche, and it’s good. It’s different than mexican ceviche– it’s very limey, fresh and tasty. My husband always orders the the roasted half chicken dish which comes with fries and a small salad. He always takes home leftovers as well. The price is moderate. It’s a true value, really, when you consider the quantity and the taste. The location is central– right next to Plaza España. Just remember to go prepared.

Obviamente no seguimos comiendo.
