Mesón 5 Jotas

The ham is the best in Spain … But see my tip about the pappardelle con crema, jamon, y tartufo. It is to die for!
This is standard 5J quality for those fortunate enough to have had «authentic» Iberian ham. The name 5J says enough.
Service was a little slow, but acceptable.
Full meal included jamon y queso … Which was fresh and had a great texture. The queso (cheese) had a real nice bite to it.
The patatas for it’s were hot and crispy. Really above average … I could not put them down.
Hands down the pasta was the star though. I could not even take the time for a picture because it smelled so good. You would have just seen a blank plate scraped clean.

This restaurant was a perfect find. Unlike the other restaurants at Plaza Mayor that try to rope tourists in, this place just quietly sits in a corner. It has a small menu, but what they serve is very very good. Their Paella Iberica is to die for. The server we had was very friendly and gave us the perfect recommendations, including for a good, yet affordable, wine to go with our paella.

Excellent tapas, featuring a scrumptious array of «jamon.» Lively environment — I loved the hustle and bustle. They served the most amazing tortilla de papa (potato omelette) I have ever had.

El Mesón 5 Jotas es uno de esos lugares que normalmente ni me habría planteado para ir a cenar, pero aparecieron en una web unos tickets de descuento que no se podían dejar escapar.
Tras mes y medio de espera para intentar conseguir una mesa un viernes o un sábado por la noche, por fin llegó el día de comprobar si lo de este restaurante era simplemente fama o si de verdad merecíà la pena.
Con los tickets teníamos una especie de menú degustación de varios platos. Por mi boca pasaron el jamón 5J, el pan con tomate, la caña de lomo 5J, las croquetas, el salmorejo, el solomillo ibérico y una tarta de queso. Todo estaba bueno, no puedo ponerle ni una pega. Ni siquiera el vino admitía discusión (aunque no soy un experto ni mucho menos).
Si buena fue la comida, bueno fue el servicio, atento y rápido. Del local me gustó la sensación de estar comiendo en una cueva, con sus arcos y sus paredes de ladrillo. Un puntito rústico muy acorde con los platos que nos sirvieron. Deseando estoy que aparezcan nuevos tickets.
