For location? Five stars. You’re super close to the Prado and a short walk to Reina Sofia, the train station or the shuttle bus stop that takes you to the airport. The lobby and bar area are great.(There’s a computer and printer in the bar area, so you can use that to print out your Prado tickets and skip the line.) The front desk staff was very helpful and seemed to speak English well(certainly better than we speak Spanish, anyway). On a rainy night, they allowed me to take one of their umbrellas. That was a nice touch. They do have wi-fi. It’s kind of annoying you have to put in a different username and code for each device, however. Thankfully, it’s a one-time process. The rooms, however, are super tiny. We had a queen bed and it took up nearly all the floor space. A giant floor-to-ceiling mirror was wedged in our room at an angle because it was too tall to fit. Tiny rooms are the norm in Europe and we expected this, but we literally had to lift our suitcase to get it over to one side of the bed — there wasn’t enough floor space to roll it around. As another reviewer mentioned, our room looked out into other windows, so I assume anyone getting off the elevator and looking out the window could see into our room. Not cool. The door to the shower in the bathroom didn’t completely seal, so my fiancée ended up flooding the floor a little. The carpet is a gaudy nightmare from a casino. There’s a placard in the room saying that each room has a hand-woven rug or some such nonsense. In any case, there were unidentified(bleach?) stains on ours. Plaster on the ceiling was cracked. Like many hotel rooms, you need to insert your hotel key to get electricity. But we also noticed the AC turns off when you pull your key, so expect to come home to an oven every day… If you stay here and you adjust your expectations, you’ll be fine. You’re getting a fantastic location in a giant city. The rooms are not great, but why did you go all the way to Madrid just to sit in your hotel room?

Very nice hotel, boutique, and central. I have enjoyed staying there with my husband and I believe the rest of our group was satisfied with the accommodations. NH provides a complimentary bottle of water every day of your stay and you have a Nespresso machine in your room. Loved it! You have access to a gym and complimentary welcome chocolates :) Staff is kind and helpful!

Ganz eklig. Sonst ist alles tipptopp.

Looks great from outside, and good front desk and restaurant service, great location, but the room! Wow, I sure hope it was the worst room they have and we just got stuck with it, because if all the rooms are this bad this hotel has problems. Our small room had a view of a central«courtyard» or shaft, which was a tiny central area. Our window peered into the rooms across the shaft. No natural light. Our room itself was so dimly lit I had to buy a flashlight(serioiusly) so I could find things in my luggage and it was nearly impossible to write post cards it was just too dark even with all the lights on. The carpet in the room was ratty old shag. Ugly and fraying on the edges. The beds were in part of the room sunk 12″ below the entrance and the bathroom so you were constantly stepping up and down, tripped a couple of times time to get to the bathroom at night(did I mention the lighting was bad?). And beams in the ceiling hung so low that anyone over 6′ tall will probably be hitting their head. To add to the experience, housekeeping would withhold an item or two a day such as soap, towels, bath mats, etc. just to keep us on our toes. The garbage in the room was never emptied for our three day stay and was overflowing when we left. We asked the people at the front desk to move us when another room became available and the assured us they would. Never heard from them again. When we left they were surprised we were unimpressed with the accomodation. If you want free Wifi it’s available in 1 hour blocks in the lobby, which is pretty standard it seems in Spain(although usually it’s 24 hour blocks). I understand that every hotel has a crappy room or two. Sucks when you are the poor sap that gets stuck with it. Unfortunately it guarantees that we’ll never be back to this dud of a hotel. If you don’t get one of the crap rooms, you might have a better experience.
