this plaza sits right on top of the opera metro station and was not far from where we stayed in madrid. compared to the other famous plazas in madrid, i.e. plaza mayor and la puerta del sol, this plaza was pretty quiet and did not offer as much entertainment. it is close to the royal palace and sabatini gardens, so one could easily walk over, check out the vendors and restaurants here, and hop on the metro. this plaza was named after queen isabel the second, who was the reigning monarch in spain from 1833 — 1868.

Visiting the squares in Madrid is a must and this particular one has a great location near The Palacio Real de Madrid, Jardines De Sabatini and the statute of Isabel II sits directly in front of the Teatro Real. There are great restaurants all around and this is a great place for buying things from street vendors. There are also tons of street performers in the area. I would suggest visiting during the day and evening especially on Saturday.
