Pintor Rosales 20 is a great place! I went last Wednesday night to watch the Copa del Rey version of El Clasico and to have a couple of copas with my wife and friend.(We needed a few copas more in the second half to numb us from the pain of watching Barca thump Real Madrid, but this isn’t a futbol review…) First: décor, the interior is dark woods, leather chairs, deep red accents and soft lighting(not the bright-ass lighting that seems to be the norm in most Madrid restaurants). There is a good sized bar on one side of the room, a sitting area complete with sofa and some arm chairs and then a back sec ion with tables and chairs. All the furniture is classy as is the ambiance in general. Kinda feels like your hanging out in the den in your house. Overall it feels more like a really good sized bar than a restaurant, though the do serve food. Good vibe. Second: Crowd. Great crowd in the bar and my friend who goes often says is always like that. Mature crowd but fun, attractive and just having a good time. Third: Copas. In general, I think that Spain and especially Madrid make better beverages than anywhere I have been in the world(Copas, Wine and Coffee are all fabulous here). And Pintor Rosales doesn’t disappoint. Good Vodka Soda, my drink of choice — plenty of liquors from which to choose and they have Schwepes Tonic and Soda, which I like. Finally. I didn’t get a chance to try the food, but the menu was pretty extensive with pinches, bocadillos and then a selection of segundos. A lot of people were eating and the food looked good. So my rating of 4* definitely more on location as a drinking establishment than as a restaurant. Overall, great neighborhood joint. Upscale without a hint of pretense. Drinks and eats. Quaint Pintor Rosales ‘hood. Really great, mellow vibe making for a great place to hang with friends.
