We didn’t stay to eat. We had a drink at the bar and were thinking about food but the bartender just wanted us to go away. She was also angry that I took a photo of the suckling pig(which I couldn’t wait to have in Europe because it is so good at Suppenküche in San Francisco.) We paid for our drinks and looked for suckling pig elsewhere.

The experience of eating Roasted Suckling Pig while in Segovia is not to be missed! I literally cannot even begin to describe how insanely good this meal was. If you are debating between a day trip from Madrid to either Toledo or Segovia, and you fancy yourself a foodie, I highly recommend choosing Segovia. As you can already tell, my group decided to visit Segovia from Madrid for our day trip to see the Alcazar and the impressive Roman Aqueduct. We decided we’d plan on seeing the castle first which was a good plan because it was relatively early and most places weren’t yet even open for lunch. After wandering around the castle we started to mosey our way back to the main part of the town. Meson Don Jimeno is conveniently located close to the castle, and we decided to stop in due to the recommendation in one of our guide books. We were relived to find that you can order portions of the pig instead of the entire one. For about $ 30 Euros you can get a portion fit for 2 – 3 people. There were four of us so we decided to try a cup of their soup and a single portion of the suckling lamb. The food was more than plentiful but it was so good we nearly finished everything(bread included). Service was steady and friendly despite how quickly the restaurant filled up. Right as lunch time peaked every table in the place was taken and people started lingering near the door waiting to get in. Something about the experience really stuck with me(it was modest, but really wonderful) and I would easily go again just to experience that meal a second time.

Easy to find as it’s on your way from the cathedral to the castle in Segovia. This place has the best suckling pig! The meat was nice and tender. The skin was crisp to perfection. The fries that were served with it were an added bonus to our taste buds. We also ordered a sizzling garlic shrimp dish. We loved the sauce so much that we ended up dipping our bread in it.

Isso. Leider.

We were in Spain for about 10 days and ate in lots of places, some were good, some were better. However this establishment was the very best place we ate in. Everyone recommends to have the traditional Segovian dish when in Segovia; that is the cochinillo asado(suckling pig) We got lots of recommendations for a place called Jose Maria. Well, we went in and there was a 15 to 30 minute wait. The place was loud and very busy so we decided to skip it and go to Meson Don Jimeno instead. Needless to say, there was no wait. The place is small and all but one table was empty. We decided to go for the all inclusive meal rather than the full, half or quarter pig. We figure this way you get to taste more than one dish. We both had the traditional white beans, the suckling pig as a second and lastly the natilla, the meal also included wine. As I previously said this was the best meal we had in Spain. The reason why it was the best meal we had in Spain is that everything single dish was amazingly good and they service was excellent. We had a nice, quiet meal in a very quaint restaurant that left an everlasting memory.
