I love a recession-busting special, especially when said special involves three of my favorite things: tortilla española, an empanadilla, and café solo. For under three euro, you can eat enough food to tide you over for breakfast, lunch, and possibly dinner. Although there is an a la carte menu, most patrons seem to order from one of the five combination specials available. The deal is alluring and the kitchen is constantly whipping up tortillas, making the restaurant smell divine. But after a bite of this tortilla, I was disappointed to find the inside fairly liquidy(gross?) and plop! — the entire slice collapsed on the plate. The empanadilla did not fare much better. Both the crust and the filling were very dry. The dryness translated to a lack of flavor for both the meat filling and the pastry shell. The meal was not a complete bust — I enjoyed my coffee and was able to read Faro de Vigo in a relaxing environment.
