On the east side of Vilanova’s port and away from the town is this huge beach, nearly 1 km long and 150m deep from the shore to the cliffs. Its size means that it’s very popular for beach sports(soccer, volleyball and kite flying), there are occasional wind-surfers here, and it’s the main beach for dog walkers(out of season). Unlike the other beaches, there’s no promenade as such, so it feels a bit less organised, and its size means it is seldom crowded. During the summer season, there is a small refreshment stall(‘Xiringuito’ in Catalan) serving slightly pricey drinks, ice-creams and light snacks, and renting out sun-loungers and umbrellas. There are showers, a WC and a Red Cross post, as well as ample parking. The L1 and L2 local buses also stop nearby. It’s backed on the land side by a series of exclusive villas, some in the Catalan Modernista style, and by the lighthouse(now also a museum) from which it gets its name(‘Far’ is lighthouse in Catalan). At the far end of the beach(next to the main railway line) is the beginning of the long-distance coastal footpath to Sitges(about 7km).
