This is a fantastic 127 mm(5 inch) gauge miniature railway, with a complex 640m-long layout consisting of spirals, tunnels and bridges, and a proper railway station building of its own, all in landscaped grounds. It’s like a model railway layout but larger! Trains are operated by volunteers, with some 14 different locomotives(mostly electric, but there are some steam engines). As well as giving rides, they run freight trains around the circuit for fun too. Unsurprisingly, it’s very popular indeed with children, although the ‘coaches’ — which you sit astride — can also take adults. It’s operated by AFEVI — the Amics del ferrocarril de Vilanova i la Geltrú(Friends of the Railway of Vilanova i la Geltrú) and the circuit was completed in 1988. Clearly, some adults have as much fun as the children!
