This a unique experience for anyone travelling in the Czech Republic. The resort consists of a Hotel, a Restaurant, and a brewery. The resort is advertised as a medieval experience with a medieval themed hotel and a medieval style show in the Restaurant. There is a tour of the Château next door that can be included into the price of the hotel. Detinice is off the beaten path towards Mlada Boleslav and although you can take a train to Mlada Boleslav you will need to take a bus/local train or two to get there. It might be better to drive so you can catch a few things to see on the way there since the drive goes through some nice deciduous forests and green pastures. Depending on what time you arrive to the hotel there may or not be a costumed character asking for your«sich» card which is an old word for«face» in Czech. Some of the hotel staff speak some English but they speak more English, German, and Russian in the restaurant. The hotel looks like it was converted from a really old long barn and all the rooms on the second floor are linked by a long spooky corridor which is illuminated by candles in the late afternoon into the evening. Also if you check in in the late afternoon or early evening there are lit candles in old style lanterns in the room. The rooms are very rustic with small windows and and not lit very well, but that adds to the ambiance. the wooden floors are very creaky and you can hear the guest next door or walking down the hall. Another funky thing is that the bathroom has a toilet hidden under a what looks like an old style out house. The brewery tour is OK, the tour guide was funny, but the best thing about the tour was that there was a tasting afterwards of the unpasteurized and unfiltered lager. Detinice brewery also makes a dark beer they call Pivo Lasky. The restaurant has typical Czech cuisine and«medieval» platters with meat and sausages. The wait staff uses old Czech words and phrases but as I mentioned earlier they can speak other languages. Lastly there is a medieval show that is on the weekends that includes dancers, knights, and a fire breather. The performers also get the guests involved in the entertainment. I don’t understand Czech that well and since the performers are speaking old Czech, some Czech people do not understand either so I think that is big deal to understand the performers.
