El Barrio de Ángel

Probably the best steaks you can get around Andel. Very nice sort of cellar like restaurant hidden away on the main tram station. All of the steaks I had there were always perfectly cooked and seasoned. I highly recommend Argentinian wine along with your sirloin steaks.

Let’s start with the big negative, the restaurant faces a very narrow sidewalk on a busy street and there is no sidewalk or patio dining opportunity. Now that that is out of the way this restaurant offers a good alternative to the preponderance of Italian in Anděl. Dining ambiance options range from cavernous cellar, open skylit dining and tall tables in the deli. Although the place is reasonably lively at lunch, dinner is quite a mystery with very few patrons; however, the food is really quite excellent if you like meat. Service has been improving; friendly, linguistically flexible and pleasant.

Sigh, every time I hope that service standards in restaurants might be improving a restaurant comes and bluntly reminds me how terribly rude servers can be. Visited with a friend for wine and dinner. We ordered the cabernet and discovered upon being given the bill that they brought the most expensive version (almost 2x the price) without asking which one we would prefer.
When we were getting ready to pay I brought out my stravenky. At which point a waiter who had never even spoken to us all night ran up to the table to tell is «Stravenky can only be used at lunch!» Apparently they seem to think the value of them changes depending on what time of day they receive them…
Avoid this place, plenty of other choices nearby.

Amazing restaurant with a great choice of various delicious dishes from meat. They also offer fish, salads and many small meat and cheese snacks in addition to their nice wines from Argentina and Chile. There is «all you can drink» option in case you are intended to taste as many South American wines as you can. The waiters speak English, and the level of service is quite good. The restaurant is located downstairs, upstairs they have tapas and wine bar.

A restaurant mainly focused on steaks with a nice interior and good service. I have to say though that the sirloin steak was not easy to cut and it could have been juicier. So despite my expectations they were not the Mecca for steak lovers and hence I am giving only an average score. The homemade lemonades however were excellent, as they do not contain any preservatives and come in many delicious flavours. The restaurant also has plenty of room downstairs for bigger groups.

After three weeks of beer, sausages, dumplings, and pork knuckles I was done with Czech food, especially after being disappointed with my visit to the brewery down the street. So after walking around Smichov I saw El Barrio de Angel (near Andel exit) and realized it was an Argentine place. So I was thinking charcuterie platter since I think I saw «deli» outside and a couple of glasses of tempranillo. I was disappointed that there was no deli inside but decided to take a chance on the paella.
As usual, Paella takes a while if it is done right, and this took about 30 minutes to come out. The Paella was really good. The rice was not dry or soggy and it was not overdone with ingredients. I’m use to saffron heavy paella as I think a lot of restaurants do that to say, «hey, we put saffron in our recipe.»
Service was a nice surprise, although I do not think they spoke Spanish (španělská vesnice) for fun I tried to order in Spanish and the číšnice had a good sense of humor about it.
The reason I am giving El Barrio only 4 stars is that even though they are thousands of miles from Arhentina and Brasil, and even if they do not cater to South Americans, they can try harder, and they should not claim they are a deli.
So if you are in Prague and sick of svickova just a 10 minute ride on the underground to Smichov. Make sure you exit the underground opposite of the bus stops.

V okolí Anděla bezkonkurenčně to nej pokud se jedná o oběd. Během poledne budete těžko shánět volný místo. Ceny poledního menu jsou vzhledem ke kvalitě velmi dobrý. Mimo polední menu však ceny jdou rapidně nahoru.
Mají super maso, polední menu je fakt dobrý, ale menu poměrně dost jednotvárný. Točí podle mě po 3 týdnech to samý pořád dokola. Takže dříve či později se toho přejíte. Nicméně i po půl roce se sem pořád vracím. Nedoporučuju si tu dávat něco mimo maso, na to běžte někam jinam.
Obsluha není žádná hitparáda, takže se obrňte trpělivostí. Tu budete potřebovat také při čekání na jídlo, jelikož to občas dost trvá.
Nicméně doporučuju!
