Ah, Fraktal. What a long and complicated history we have. For many years, this was the most consistent place in Prague — a funky decoration scheme, eclectic music, attentive service(a welcome respite from ‘traditional” Czech service), pretty good food, excellent burgers and a weekend brunch that was the envy of the city. It was the kind of place that you’d go to for late brunch on a Saturday, stick around to drink beer, more friends would show up, and pretty soon you just ordered dinner as well and drank for another few hours. Almost like a clubhouse, and a place you ALWAYS took visitors. Then things started to slip — new staff were kind of jerks, the food started becoming uneven, eventually dipping down into«that wasn’t very good» territory. Then a consultant was brought in to revitalize the food, and it was a smashing success — no one minded the occasional crappy waiter with attitude, because the food got so damned good. And then he left, and quality started to slip again. Today, Fraktal is an uneven bet — sometimes the burgers and Mexican dishes are really good, sometimes they kind of suck — depends on who’s cooking. Sometimes your server is an old hand who is attentive and friendly, sometimes someone new who thinks that you are a jerk for bothering them. The interior is starting to fall apart — those booth seats, which have always been uncomfortable, are now torn up and disintegrating. Basically, Fraktal is a case study of one of the main issues with the Prague restaurant scene — staff. They understand they good staff can make the difference in a restaurant — from servers to cooks. But good people sometimes move on to bigger and brighter things, and those who replace them sometimes couldn’t care less about making customers happy or cooking good food(it’s almost as if they think, «Well, I don;t eat this food, so who cares how I cook it?») Whipping that kitchen staff into shape and overhauling the interior could help turn things around. I still come here — sometimes. But I used to come twice a week. And i really hope that some day things will be better, so I once again want to make this place a frequent stop, not just an occasional one.

This place was recommended by a local friend. I had the Fraktal burger. It was cooked well, the ingredients were decent but not the best, there was way too much mayonnaise but the flavor combo worked well. The bar was very smoky! For the area this might be a great burger but it is nothing special. I would go again if someone else wanted to go. *Like many places in the area, they don’t take Credit Card*

Not a bad place for typical Czech pub situated very close to Letna park. It’s pretty big inside, but located in the cellar floor, quite dark and looks worn-out. The service can be slow, even at the bar. The quality of food is very average. They have several TV screens, so it can be a decent option for watching sport events if the city centre pubs are fully booked. In summer, they also have tables outside.

I’ve been traveling for over 2 months and had to order a somewhat unusual dish. The Mezze plate was my choice for dinner,(I have had a lot of Mediterranean and Persian food in California) and the baba ganoush was out of this world, served with a great toasted chewy pita. The menu is all over the place but is pretty good and hits the spot. Boyfriend had a chicken burrito(made with rice and beans splashed with green salsa on top), which was very tasty although not spicy. We are going back for lunch.

Was will man mehr? Wenn wenn es um eine reine Speise Lokal gehen sollte, dann verweise ich auf meine anderen Beiträge in Prag.

This used to be a neighborhood favorite of mine, always good for a nightcap but even better for a weekend brunch. The portions are massive and completely filling. The food is some traditional breakfast fare with a tex-mex influence, making for something a little out of the ordinary over in letna. The waitstaff is friendly once you get to know them and the people all have a killer sense of humor.
