There are few instances that I’d give a restaurant five stars after 1) waiting over half an hour for a table after being told it’d just be a minute and 2) having my drink spilled on me by my waiter. BUT there are first times for everything. Maso a Kobliha is next to Sansho and the other Paul Day restaurant. It’s a little more casual, better for lunch or a midday snack. It can be very hard to snag a table, so be prepared to share your table or wait a bit. I ordered a Scotch egg and a vanilla donut, both things they’re very famous for, and wow. The Scotch egg was SO good — the meat was perfectly crispy on the outside and so moist and well-seasoned on the inside, and it went perfectly with the rich melty egg yolk. I want another one so badly, but unfortunately I’ve crossed the Atlantic and all I can do is hope that Paul Day stays there for a while. The donut though. BEST donut I’ve ever had. The dough was a flawless combination of chewy and fluffy, and the top of it was dusted with crunchy sugar. And once I bit into it, rich vanilla custard speckled with vanilla bean oozed out. I would probably kill for one of those right now. They comped my donut because of the spilled drink, which was very nice of them! Can’t wait to come back… Eventually!

Maso a Kobliha is reckoned to be one of the«best bistros» in Prague these days with an English pub food concept. It is the sister restaurant of the famous(and very expensive), Sansho restaurant, located just across the square. Maso a Kobliha has more affordable prices. We sat outside in a really cute hidden away area behind the restaurant. Could be quite romantic with the right company. Beers were good and inexpensive. — Croquettes: Tried one of each — ham and broccoli & parmesan. Both delicious! Recommended! — Cabbage with bacon and hazelnuts: delicious! Highly recommended! — Daily meat pie: This was ok but not so special. — Ham, Egg, Bubble & Squeak: Good but nothing so special. They also apparently have«the best donut in town» — and with their name meaning«Meat and Doughnut» it must be true. Unfortunately they were out of donuts when we were there — sold out because they are so good? Perhaps one day I can confirm.
