You might be wondering after reading all the reviews — can this place be that great? Let me break it down for you: Rooms: B+ We had a Double Deluxe, which was spotless and decorated in a traditional style. It was a wee but tight, with little space to get to the far side of the bed. We could have used some storage drawers too but there was a huge closet with shelves. Our room was courtyard facing and very quiet(see note below). Bathroom:A Very clean & well stocked with toiletries and a large shower with body jets. Bathrobes included. Amenities: A+ For a 22-room place, this hotel has a surprising amount of amenities. A wine bar, a sauna, private car service and more. Need an umbrella, an electrical converter or a laptop to check messages? Just ask — they’ll borrow you one, free! Want room service or breakfast or dinner? No extra cost! Of course, air con, reasonably priced minibar and free wifi as well. Breakfast: A+ A full European spread of cold cuts, fruit, yogurt, cereal and breads. Everything was fresh, delicious and constantly refilled. Also, there is a cooked to order menu of eggs, pancakes etc that’s no cost. Want breakfast in bed? No charge! Leaving early? They’ll make you a big packed breakfast for the airport. Service: Beyond A+ I wish there were grades above A+ for service — Hotel General employees are incredible. It’s like they had a contest for the nicest, most helpful people in the Czech Republic and hired the winners. They remember if you like coffee or tea at breakfast. They’ll walk you through a city map, give directions, explain public transport and more. Normally, service like this is reserved for $ 500+ a night places, but Hotel General is so reasonable. Area: A I know some will disagree with me, but I think Smichov is a great area to stay. I found the tourist areas exhausting so it was great to come back here and enjoy the quiet. Restaurants here are non touristy and not rip offs. There is a cute market on Fridays in front of the Andel metro, perfect for picking up a picnic lunch to enjoy in Perrin Park. Birdwatching: A Our room was quiet, except for a bird that made the most awful shrieking calls. I was really sick of it until I realized(as it perched on our sill) that it was a small falcon — cool! Summary: Prague is a beautiful city but it’s full of tourist traps and rip offs. Prague can be crowded and exhausting — Hotel General is the perfect refuge. Do yourself a favor and stay here, you won’t regret it!
