I love tavuk doner. Chicken doner and kofte are my go to Turkish comfort food. They have some pretty awesome doner here. This might sound strange, but they also have really good pickles. A lot of times the pickles in Turkey can taste fishy. My Turkish husband tells me this is because fish is sometimes used as a fertilizer for the cucumbers. Makes sense. But Bambi’s pickles are not fishy. It really adds to the overall yumminess of the doner. If you are a tourist in Istanbul you will almost certainly wind up in Taksim. If you do, grab a doner here. You won’t be sorry. There are other locations as well but the easiest to find is the Taksim one.

This is the first place my friend and I stopped in while in Istanbul… because they were open and we were hungry for some breakfast. It was a bit confusing at first since we couldn’t tell what anything was and the workers didn’t speak any English but it all worked out. They were out of waffles which was awfully disappointing, but we got our tea and eventually our ayvalik, which we had to check for pork products but ended up being safe. The food was actually very good and we left full and happy.

It was the cheapest and the most charismatic restaurant we have been to in Istanbul. Considering that this döner shop has been there in Taksim since 1974 we can call it a scene döner. I tried a shit burger there: a döner made if intestines, rolled like a spiral horizontally on the stick. It tasted well! Warning to sensitive stomachs: a cook asks you if you want some chilly so be careful!
