Maybe this was a case of my husband and I being starving and being in a doner mood or maybe the food really was four-star worthy but whatever it was, we enjoyed our meals at Kasap Doner very much! The one thing to note about the menu here is that the menu on the plastic placards on the tables is different than what your server is going to present you with. It states on the placards that you can order different weights of meat(e.g. «not so hungry,» «hungry,» «famished») and the price goes up the more meat you order. You can even state a specific amount of grams you wish to consume. Yet when your server comes over, he will ask you if you want«big or bigger.» We said bigger and we aren’t sure if we were charged correctly or not because we had no idea what«bigger» really meant. All we knew was that it was 3pm and we had not eaten yet and were starving. Also, there’s not discussion to be had with the servers as they aren’t very engage-worthy. Anyway, I recommend getting the plate which will come with two thin slices of bread(think tortillas) and then you can dress your mini doners as you wish. Service aside, this place is great.

Looking for a late-in-the evening option during the week on Ishkendar isn’t tough, but when you’re looking for something quick and cheap and not from these parts, it can prove to be a bit tough. Not wanting a full Anatolian dinner and not really jonesing for Shake Shack(yes, they have them here!) we found this spot that seemed to be going for that hip, neon lights, upscale Shake Shack vibe, but in lieu of burgers, doner! Genius. We immediately thought that this was going to be some legendary doner, that local Turks eat to soak the booze. Alas, we were wrong. No menu’s to be found anywhere… weird. Our lovely young waiter told us: wrap, sandwich or plate. We went with a medium plate and fries and some cokes.(No alcohol here). A few minutes later our meals came out. Some very thinly shaved, dry, fatty doner meat with zero flavor served with a few fries, some fresh tomatoes and green habanero peppers. I had to douse mine with sriracha for some flavor, however the man enjoyed his thoroughly. Plates come with 2 extremely large wraps that were again, not flavorful or fresh tasting at all. After enjoying meals where piping hot, fresh pita and bread was coming out of ovens night after night, this was a let down. Our side order of fries came and they too tasted generic. No Turkish love in this meal. Biggest let down? It was pricy. We’re talking about $ 70TL for the 2 meals which equates to about $ 30−35US which isn’t horrible, but this was straight up not that awesome street meat served in a fancy fast food restaurant. I definitely don’t recommend and I definitely think you can find better on Ishketal and in the Beyogolu in general.
