The Han Restaurant

We spent our last night in Istanbul here and were delighted with the warm welcome we received. The food was incredible and the staff could not have been more fun. From the hummus at the beginning to the delicious baklava and Turkish coffee — we enjoyed every bite… If you go you might get lucky and have handsome Jimmy wait on you… A definite must when you visit this lovely city.

We enjoyed sitting on the divans, watching the woman prepare the flat bread, and tasting the unique lentil soup, imam bayildi and mashed potatoes baked on a chicken breast with surrounding vegetables and sauce. The atmosphere struck us as a bit Texan (hanging wagon wheels with lanterns) and canoe paddles, but the waiter insisted that it was Turkish.

The ladies in the front that cook the gozleme reminded me of my grandma. We ate here 3 times. It is very conveniently located on the way to the Archeology Muzeum and Topkapi Palace. But be aware of the prices: not cheap. Also, the waiters are very eager to sell you the most expensive dish on the menu. It was ok the first time. The times we refused to order the lamb — I think it is — the waiters were kind of rude. The food is otherwise delicious even though there is a cafeteria style two doors up that has much cheaper and still excellent food.

Unglaublich leckeres Essen! Sehr eindrucksvoll mit Feuer teilweise zubereitet (flammbiert) wir waren vom Am iente sehr angetan. Man kann auf dem Boden essen wie im osmanischen Reich oder ganz modern auf Stühlen. Ein absolutes Muss!

Great atmosphere great food!!! Gözleme bread is wonderful, made the old fashion way. On the other hand our server Selcuk is not friendly at ALL! Total jerk!!! If you come to eat dinner here, and I highly recommend that you do make sure not to sit in his section. Oh and they do not take Amex.

The friend whom I was traveling with suggested this place and the interior is pretty nice, comfortable and seeing the pancakes made in front of the window is a nice touch. We had cheese, spinach, as well as a chocolate pancake for dessert. The cheese was ok, a bit dry but all right. I was most impressed by the spinach pancake, the leaves were bright green and perfectly cooked, while not watery overall. I don’t know how they achieved this, but am impressed nonetheless.
The chocolate pancake, I would suggest skipping. It was dark chocolate yet excessively sweet that had the consistency of the cheap hersheys chocolate that comes in a can, and it oozed everywhere since it was so thin. If it were thicker and not as sweet, it might have been ok.
My favorites regarding this place are the perfectly cooked spinach in the pancake and the atmosphere, a bit casual but not too casual.

Tolle Sitzgelegenheiten auf dem Boden und am Tisch. Sehr schönes Ambiente. Die Preise sind für Istanbuler Verhältnisse recht hoch jedoch ist das Essen nur zu empfehlen.

So touristy, I’m embarrassed we ate here, but we were starving and need something filling.
The ladies in the front making the bread/​pancake thing is what attracted is, in addition to the fact that the place was filled with Germans and French people. It must be in the guidebooks!
I got a spinach and mushroom pancake thing, which was fine, but dry. My friend got a chicken mushroom dish that was drenched with a mysterious yellow sauce. That sauce was disturbingly addictive… we were hungry.
The prices here were astronomical, portions were on the small side, and food was okay. Overall, venture somewhere else.

Das Restaurant punktet mit dem Damen, die wie hinter einem Schaufenster die Fladen produzieren. Vor dem Fenster bleiben natürlich viele Touristen stehen und gaffen diese an. Deswegen sind die Sitzplätze dort auch eher ungünstig. Das Ambiente ist gemütlich, z.T. sitzt man in Sofas. Das Essen ist gut aber zu teuer. Das Personal ist geachaefftig und hektisch, wenig empathisch. Insgesamt doch eher ein wenig Touri-​Nepp. Das Damenklo war eine Zumutung.

Wir haben die Dame im Schaufenster zugeschaut wie sie die Gözlemes frisch zubereitet, und waren so angetan, dass wir den Besuch gewagt haben.
Das Personal war nett und nicht aufdringlich.
Leider war das Essen nicht so toll.
Ich weiß nicht ob Hummus in der Türkei immer ohne Zitrone und Knoblauch zubereitet wird, andere Länder usw., aber das was wir hier gegessen haben war einfach pürierte Kichererbse, und sonst nichts, auch keine Salz und Pfeffer!
Der Auberginencreme war genauso geschmacksneutral. Die Gözlemes waren frisch, klein, und gefüllt mit Tiefkülspinat. Der Gemüseauflauf ging, und die Kartoffeln aus dem Ofen waren sehr gut.
Alles in Allem haben wir meines Erachtens viel zu viel bezahlt, und die Erfahrung war sehr enttäuschend.

Na ja, der salat war nicht mehr frisch, ein haar war auch drin.
Das frisch im lokal zubereitete fladenbrot mit spinat und die nett gestaltete räumlichkeit konnten überzeugen.
Preis war zu hoch, besser und günstiger ist durch aus möglich.

Nicht billig, aber sehr lecker!

Das Han Restaurant, nahe der Hagia Sophia, Topkapi & Gülhanepark, bietet türkische Küche in folkloristischen Ambiente zu durchaus stolzen Preisen… Die Gerichte sind allerdings auch sehr lecker — für Gaumen & Augen… hier gab es die beste Meze während des Istanbulbesuchs… die typischen und frischgebacken Fladen haben das ganze abgerundet. Auch die Hauptgerichte waren (zumindest die verzehrten) haben sich sehr gelohnt zu bestellen… mal keinen Döner wie zu Hause…
Das Personal war sehr freundlich und und versucht in mehreren Sprachen zu kommunizieren (Türkisch, Englisch, Deutsch, Spanisch…).
Auch wenn die Preise nicht ganz ohne sind (60 EUR für 2 Personen, Vorspeise, Hauptgericht, Wasser, Wein) kann ich das Han empfehlen.
