While in Şanlıurfa, a group of 5 of us visited this restaurant and had lunch. We were greeted by a man in a suit that spoke English fairly well, which was nice. When we sat down we asked for a menu, and were told that they didn’t have one. I always prefer a menu so I can at least get a feel for what is being offered and hopefully see a picture or two. We then asked to use the restroom and to our surprised, again, the restaurant didn’t have one. They did however have a sink to wash our hands. Our group ordered 5 entrees, asking the manager to bring us a hodgepodge to share. He initially brought out 5 cold tomato/cucumber soups, which some of us liked. It tasted like a Turkish gazpacho. For entrees it seemed that the only thing the restaurant offered was döner meat, which I guess makes sense from the name. They brought five platers of sliced döner meat overtop a bed of rice, garnished with onion, tomato and parsley on the side. A bread basket accompanied the meal, so we were eating with rice and making sandwiches. The flavor of the meats were good. Two of the platers had a warm Turkish type of marinara sauce poured over top the meat, which gave it even a better flavor. We told the waiter to bring us some extra marinara in a bowl, for dipping purposes, which really gave the meal an extra kick. I personally would have appreciated a bit more variety in the meal choices, but since there wasn’t a menu, I’m not sure if that was even an option. The food was good, not great. Service, however, was wonderful and the price was 69 Turkish lira for 5 guests, about $ 6 per person, which can’t be beat.
