I had my doubts when coming here. My boyfriends cousin got married here and I assumed we would be at a loss. Two gay vegans trying to blend in at a religous affair, far far away from my idea of civilasaion. But The Inn & Conference Center at University of Maryland University College changed my mind real fast. They have gone green – from supplying recycling bags to energy saving lights, the conservation is much appreciated. The room, marked as cozy, was very large and super comfortable. The in-laws poked fun, but the room was larger than my Brooklyn apartment… I slept like a king! But the best surprise was the wedding dinner. Going out to dinner in rural areas are scary. We are usually stuck eating dry salad o bland pasta. Which is what we ate at all previous weddings. But The Inn & Conference Center is the great hotel hope. First plate was a gorgeous three skewers of BBQ tofu with onions and peppers. The tofu was amazing, very firm and dry like smoked meat. The second plate was fried tofu with huge asparagus… I wasn’t thrilled about double tofu, but it was awe inspiring still. While we didn’t get a dessert, I was far to full to want. In addition to the great meal, all the staff were friendly and fun, being very warm to my table 6 year old table partner. If I found myself out that way i my future life, it could be a great place to stay.
