WOW! This little gem is definitely worth the trip if your a cider fan. Bold Rock is still my overall favorite, but these guys have some great flavors. The tasting was great and, even though we didn’t eat, the food looked amazing and everyone raved about it. If you’re a fan of cider, in the area(or not) make the time to stop in and check out their selection of ciders. You won’t be disappointed.

My group of four dropped by the tasting room on 151 despite Google saying it was permanently closed, and we had a blast with the bartenders! Both were knowledgeable, friendly, and appropriately attentive. The ciders were delicious all-around. We tried their blonde, amber, cherry, pineapple, harvest, and hopped ciders, and they were all unique and tasty. This was the best stop of our wine/beer/cider tour on 151 for taste, atmosphere, and service. This new cidery is doing great things! Highly recommended!

The best restaurant on 151! We are local and eat here religiously. I would recommend the shrimp and the shepherds pie. Great prices and wonderful food, never really crowded and always tasty.

Word of mouth… I met a couple at a Pink Concert in DC and they told me about this amazing event that was put on by a little pub 3 hours away that was worth every mile and penny to attend. I found out about this event in November and was still pumped to go by the time March rolled around, that’s how highly this couple spoke of this place and after my experience I will be just as happy to speak just as highly! Blue Toad’s 3rd Annual St Patty’s Brew Tour was the event and it was hosted by the Blue Toad. It truly worth the trip, probably one of the most fun St. Patty’s Days I’ve ever had! We were provided a buffet breakfast, then herded on to a large bus and taken to 3 different local breweries where we were given samples and tours at each along with enough time to kinda hang around to enjoy the scenery. We indulged on the bus between stops and at the end of the day ended up back at the pub for our included dinner buffet and musical entertainment. It was a great group of respectful people and towards the end everyone was quite inclusive and friendly. I don’t think anyone walked a away without a smile on their face and a good feeling of knowing they got more than what they paid. Todd was a gracious and responsible host, I want to do some more tours with them. The pub itself is expertly placed right in the middle of quite a few breweries and if you check their facebook page you will find that they offer smaller brew, wine, and cidery tours on a regular basis in their tiny dedicated bus with a cute blue toad plastered on the side! Did I mention they also have a great selection of craft brews(at least 24 different beers for every hour of the day, coincidence? I think not) in-house along with an extensive bar and a decent food menu. There’s plenty of space inside and outside, clean and inviting, it’s a happening place I want to visit again for another tour if possible.

Looking for food and beer between wineries on VA151. Great pub food and bottled micro brews from 50 states. Slightly pricey, good atmosphere, stop here for a burger, rings and beer.

I was not impressed. The whole experience was just ok at best. Nothing terribly wrong, but nothing great either. I will skip this place next time we are in town.

As others have mentioned, the service is hit or miss. We enjoy the food, but you have to find a time when they are not crowded, or you are likely to have to wait for a while for whatever you order.

I really enjoy the food here, it reminds me of New York casual fare, which is hard to come by in Central Virginia. I always enjoy the casual atmosphere and good service. Nice environment!

Horrible service. Our waiter didn’t recognize one of the featured beers on their menu when three out of seven of our party tried to order it(hell or high watermelon– he also didn’t get the irony…). They were out of chicken wings at 3 pm on a football weekend, our bachelorette party waited over an hour for our food order that never came, and they told us 45 minutes in to the wait they were also out of potato pancakes. When we asked when our food might arrive our waiter ignorantly told us, «as soon as possible». Seriously?! When we said we had to leave to make our winery reservation, they comped our beers and said they could box my chili to go. Ugh. Awful. Thanks for the brews, I guess.

This place has promise. They have a decent selection of beer, although disappointingly few on tap. Still, they had a nice variety and it was good to see Ommegang Rare Vos on tap. They do need to get their act together about the beer offered. In the drink menu the beers are listed by state. Alabama’s listing had Bear Republic Racer 5. Bear Republic is from California. There are many fine breweries in Alabama(Back Forty, Good People, and Avondale spring to mind), none of which were on the drink menu. So: the potential is there, but much work needed.

My husband and I tried The Blue Toad on the recommendation of a server at the Afton Mountain Vineyards and loved the place. With craft beers available from all 50 states and delicious pub food, we’ll have reason to come again and again. We particularly liked the 50 states premise, and it’s a great idea to encourage repeat diners. Alaska and Utah down, 48 to go! We also enjoyed the fish and chips, and the meal was among the best versions of fish and chips we’d ever had. But be forewarned if you order it: the serving is massive enough for two hungry diners to share. The fish was pretty close to a whole fish, and engulfed the massive plate. The chips were outstanding waffle fries, perfectly potato-y and salty, and tasted like they were freshly cut and cooked. We also tried mixed green salads. If you go that route, do not miss their house dressing, the warm bacon vinaigrette. It was positively heavenly. We also tried the corn on the cob, which was simple and succulent. We enjoyed great service on our visit. When we finished up, we ordered a strawberry chiffon cake to go and went outside to play cornhole. With musical guests, a playground, lawn games, great pub food, and an expansive craft beer and local beer and wine lists, it’s easy to see how this new joint is a hit with families, locals, and travelers of all ages.

New addition to Rt 151 scene. Cross between family restaurant and dive bar. Beers of 50 states, plus more on tap. Burgers, BBQ and misc. British food, ie bangers & mash, Guinness stew, fish & chips. Wed. Nite roast beef special. Service needs serious work. Inexpensive. Located just beyond Blue Ridge Brewery.

Love this new addition to the Nelson County scene! The Toad(as it has become affectionately known around the area) is loaded with personality and is a great place for families. This place has mastered the art of creativity in the various specials, musical guests, and promotions they have going on all the time(The website and Facebook pages are always up-to-date on the latest happenings.) The food is delicious and simple, and not too expensive – making it a perfect place for regular outings. The outdoor playground and patio offer a way for parents to enjoy a meal, one of their many fine beer selections, and an uninterrupted conversation – while the kids love the extra outdoor playtime. My own kids anticipate the free popcorn in the lobby, which I appreciate in that it helps keep them calm while they await their favorite grilled cheese sandwiches in the area!
