Despite the fact that LA Weekly readers have voted this place the region’s «Best Used Book Store» on multiple occasions, it still remains a well-kept secret. Admittedly, this has worked out well for me and the others who have come to regard this place as our private little treasure trove. Every Saturday(the only day of the week it is open) you will see the same faces, lined up prior to the opening, waiting to see what goodies have come in during the week. Whether you are a bookworm, a collector, or a dealer, you will surely walk away happy. There is a mind-blowing variety of inventory — all at ridiculously cheap prices(the vast majority of items are just $ 1.00 and you’d be hard pressed to find something priced at more than $ 3.00) So it is with some reluctance that I write this review. The selfish part of me likes things just the way they are and has no wish to see my «secret spot» gain wider popularity. But the folks who run this place are such excellent people and the proceeds from everything they sell goes toward such a good cause(library materials and programs), that I have to give in to my better angels and trumpet to the world at large exactly what it is they’ve been missing. If you are a book lover who lives in or near Agoura Hills and have never been here, then what are you waiting for? And even if you live farther afield, I can assure you it’s well worth the drive. The cost of the gasoline will be more than offset by the savings you will realize on your purchases(and you will not leave empty-handed) Cheap books, wonderful people… can you think of a better way to spend your Saturday?

A gold mine is to gold as this book cellar is to books. Huge selection of used books, including paperback, hardcover, children’s, adults and even CD’s are available for very reasonable prices. Only open on Saturday’s, ample parking with friendly staff, what else could one ask for? Oh, and they gladly accept donations of used books, too!

Great people who are knowledgable and friendly. I donated a thousand books to them from my personal library after discovering that all of them are volunteers and whatever money they generate from the resale of my donation is used to support functions of the public library. 100%. That’s amazing. People need to support the libraries.

Books are inexpensive and if you leave a request for book you get a call when they get them. All by donation of people. All that work there a very friendly and the manager is very knowledgable and nice. Thank you for keeping every thing alphabetized it helps every week I go there and go to my section right away and find my books. I can spend hours there and I always loose track of time. The best!

I am a book junkie. Used books mostly. I have traveling a lot for business and pleasure and before I leave I find the next week to 3 used books stores in the area. I have to say that The Book Cellar is by far the best. The largest library, separated by genre, a back storage room 2 times the actual sales room ready to keep the inventory going for what seems like forever. It also is in the basement of the Agoura Hills library which makes it feel like a secret. Paperback are super cheap at 0.50 and hard and trades are mostly 1.00.

I love the Agoura Hills Book Cellar! I have found most of my cook books, books on cd and kids books here! I have 2 boys, 13&8 who love to peruse the treasures found in this this«cellar». Manned by gracious volunteers, and very organized, it’s easy to find anything and everything. Great place for book lovers!

If you still like reading from a book the book cellar is a great low cost option. $.50/softcover. Downside is many books aren’t accessible behind cage where you’ll need a volunteer to help you access

I love going to the bookseller. The volunteer staff is friendly, they have a great selection, the prices are amazingly inexpensive, and they will put you on a waiting list if you want a particular book. Not only that, the proceeds go to a great cause!

What a find for a used book store! Only open Saturdays and the money raised funds the Agoura Hills Public Library upstairs. All volunteer staffed! Children Chapter books are .50, adult and children paperbacks are .50, trade paperbacks are $ 1, hard cover books are $ 1 and coffee table books range from $ 1 – 3.50. Great selection of dvds, video tapes(5 for $ 1), books on CD, books on tape, magazines and classics. Plus, they take requests at no extra charge and call you when the book comes in. No wonder LA Weekly rated them the best used book store in LA and Ventura Counties for three years in a row, recently!
